Do I really need ADRs for May?

We will be in WDW May 6-13 with our DS (4). I have no idea how crowded the parks will be at that time of year. Do we need ADRs for TS dinners? I don't want to be too tied down to specific times and places but I'd rather be tied down than have to wait an hour for dinner every night. What do you suggest?

I would recommend making ADR's for TS places. We were there in Jan (slow season) and a few places were turning people away at the door, not even offering to let them wait - Le Celliar is notorious for this. In the past we have even waited up to 50 minutes with ADR's at a few popular places. Do you know where you would like to eat? Maybe if you listed the names of the TS you like we could let you know how crowded they usually are.

I am going the same time as you and i have made my resies already and this was three weeks ago and times were filling up fast ,some we late because the had alot of people calling ,call asap!!

I live in Orlando and wanted to let you know that I would definately make ADR's anywhere they take them. There is not a time here (either at WDW or not) that it is not busy and you will probably have to wait to eat somewhere.

Hi! We are going to be there that exact week! I went ahead and made ADR's for every day. I figure when the days come, and I need to change something, I can give it a whirl and call dining while I am there. I have had luck with that in the past. If not, at least I have something scheduled Good luck!

I am going the same week as well and made my ADR's months ago and even then my time choices were limited, I left 2 nights open to play around but will try to stick with the plans I made!

I would make ADR's - last May they were turning people away right and left...we are going the week after that and we made our ADR's (most) already.

You won't be tied down, ADR's are not reservations in the usual sense of the word. They are not holding a table empty for you so if your plans change and you can't keep your ADR no problem. (I do try to call as soon as my plans change, you can easily do this in any of the parks. but if I don't get a chance to call its no sweat) If you want a table service meal, especially dinner make the ADR's. I was at Tony's in the MK last year in May and a poor Hostess was being abused (I mean really screamed at) by a visitor because he had been to every restaurant in the MK and couldn't get a table without an hours wait. I mentioned to the manager how gracious she was under pressure.

I made mine ages ago and even with just 2 adults I had some times I couldn't get what I wanted exactly.

You'll never regret making an ADR, but you will regret *not* making one. Any time of year, they are so helpful and will cut down on wait times to eat. You can always cancel them if you decide not to use them. I can understand not wanting to be tied down or too planned, but it's better to have the ADRs.

We're going the week before you and we couldn't even get our first time choice for all our ADRs and we finished them up last week. Bottom line, if you really have your heart set on a certain restaurant, make an ADR ASAP or run the risk of missing out and being left to scramble in May.

I always make ADR's. I've seen many people turned away from restaurants even in slow season. Its so much easier to have a plan and just show up when its time to eat. Sometimes you still have to wait a few minutes to eat, but its better than being turned away at the door.

I'm pretty sure it stands for Advanced Dining Reservations (or Request?). Anyway it's making a reservation at any table service restaurants.

As another poster said, its advanced dining reservations. They used to be called ps', for priority seatings!

We are going MAY 13-20.... I just called last week & got reservations for 7 nights, table-service dinners (some character meals, some not). I got my first choice of day & time for each restaurant. It was not a problem.

Whispering Canyon

1900 Park Fare
Hollywood & Vine

I'm not sure why I got everything I wanted (day & time) & others stated they were having a difficult time with some.
I would call soon. You can always cancel later if you need to.

Thanks everyone! I took your advice and made a few ADRs this morning. I got pretty much what I asked for (except I couldn't get Mama Melrose's with the Fantasmic package, had to go with H&V). I still need to make a few more.

Angela - you are right - ADR's are advanced dinner reservations. I am going May 14-19 and just made ours. Like everyone said on this thread - make them - you can always cancel.
