I would like to eat here since I think the kids would enjoy it... Even though I am planning what days we will be at what parks, I am not it any way planning how the day will go... I am the type of person to see what happens especially with a 5 and 3 year old...you never know what will happen:) So anyway, we will be at some point going to DTD and I want to eat at Trex...do I need a reservation or will we be able to walk up? We are going the 3rd week in May...TIA!

You can do a walk up but you may end up with a long wait. I have gone at off hours, like 2:30 in the afternoon and walked right in. Then when i come out I see a line forming.

If you go over in the evening, the line would probably be an hour..maybe more.

It is a fun restaurant though with HUGE portions on the food and it's a lot of fun as long as your kids don't mind the loud meteor shower storms that occur every few minutes. (I've heard people say that their young children were sensitive to this, but I've never noticed any kids in the restaurant being upset over it at all.)

Also, keep in mind that no dining plan is accepted here.

So, as long as you are there during an early time of day, I think you could be flexible with a walk up. If you want to go later, make a reservation and just cancel if need be.

Thanks! Maybe I will make a reservation one of the days and hopefully get there that day just in case... I think my kids would love it and they are definately not scared of loud noises...especially the way my dh watches movies:)

If you are going to make reservations call them directly. I tried to book a reservation on the Disney site and there were no times available. I called the restaurant directly to ask about walk up wait times and they had plenty of openings for when I wanted to go so I made the reservation.

Do you think they would have reservations the morning of? Then I would know we were going:)

That I don't know. My reservation is for mid May. As the other poster suggested I think it is going to come down to what time of the day you decide to go.

I think it would also depend on the time of year..In the summer and spring break I think a walk up would amount to quite a wait..

We always call restaurant directly and get a ADR but last yr we were hungry before our ADR time and were able to walk up and get a table about 40 min prior to our time with no prolem..

Trex is one of my DH fave and we do it every year the evening before we check into our WDW resort..

I've even waited as long as an hour with a reservation, make a reservation as soon as you can.

Yes, definitely call the restaurant directly. I tried and tried using the Disney system and couldn't find an opening so I called them directly and had my choice of times!! :thumbsup2

oh and if you sign up for the safari card program (they have them at rainforest cafe and are good for rainforest and yak & yeti and trex), they give you a free app or discount off of your entrees and also give you priority seating on walk-ups to those restaurants.

The card is about 10 bucks (can't remember) but you get it back with that first free app. and its good forever for everytime you go to any of those restaurants anywhere in the country.
The nice bonus is that it helps you skip the wait line if you flash it (in theory, cause they can't just kick people out of tables).
