Morning all,

Looking for some advice......

I'm considering doing the ITT Travel & Tourism BTEC Certificate as a 'starter' toward setting up my own USA-Specialist travel company....

I know some of the DIS'ers are travel agents already or intending to become, so any advice would be welcome, e.g. is it necessary, what else should i be doing etc

I ask because at around £450, it's not cheap if it's not worth having!

realistically, unless it gives you IATA qualifications I wouldn't bother, most of what you need to know is which operator goes where and general airline info. Travel is the most cut throat business with very small amounts of commission being paid. Unless you're offering real specialist travel arangements (and I mean more comprehensive than, say Travel4 or Premier, or any other big USA operator)I would say it would be very difficult to succeed in it. Sorry to sound so negative but having worked in the business for ten years I know that margins are being cut, commissions are very small and perks are nonexistant
