Do I need to change a filter or something on my whirlpool/jacuzzi tub?

Lately, every time I run the jets, the water is brownish and then it leaves this gross brown/yellow ring around the tub. I have never had a whirlpool/jacuzzi before and I am wondering I need to change a filter or something? I am clueless.

I was told by our builder that it is important to fill the tub with water and a cup of bleach, then run the jets to clean them out.

Hope this helps!

Yes, clean it out with bleach and water. I think they even make cleaners for jacuzzis for this problem. Small amounts of water stays in the pipes, and when combined with your natural body oils and soap, turns into nasty gunk! In my new house I am putting in an air tub because I don't want to have to think about water just sitting in the pipes getting yucky!

for my jacuzzi tub (from the manufacturer of my tub)

fill tub just above jets
add 1 cup (I use 1/2 because I have very soft water) low-sudsing dishwasher detergent (the powder)
turn the jets on for 1 cycle (mine's 20 minutes)
empty tub
re-fill with clean water
run jets with clean water for 1 cycle
empty tub

should be done every 3 months (or more if you use your tub more often)
done. :)

Auto dishwasher soap works great too. Run the tub for 5 minutes with the auto dishwasher soap and then do another rinse tub. Not to gross you out too much, but the brown is actually dead skin! :earseek: It accumulates when the tub is used and when it doesn't get used for awhile, it flakes off and comes out the next time it is used. If you don't use the jets at least once a month, you need to at least run a tub full that often.

All this talk has made me decide a nice warm jacuzzi would be a good thing to do today! :D
