Do I need to Bank?

Hello.

Lets see if I can ask my question and provide all the relevant information the first time.

My use year begins in April. I currently have 152 points for use year 2012.

In September I will be booking a vacation for August 2013 at our home resort. It will take 268 points. Which means I want to use the 152 from 2012 and the remaining from 2013.

My main question is:

Do I need to bank my 152 points before I make the reservation? Or doesn't it matter?

you can bank your 2012 pts at any time. it's fine to wait till you call to book in september.

just make sure if you change plans (say you decide to wait till the 7 month window to book a different resort), that you call and bank the pts by the end of november.

The points need to be available in your account to be used at the time of your stay. If that means that you need to bank or borrow to move the points there than that's what you need to do. Remember you only have 8 months to bank based on your UY.

When making a reservation online, you can exit the reservation screen and go to the banking screen to move your points.

Yes, to use the 2012 points for the August 2013 reservation ,you need to bank them before you make the reservation.

As noted, you can wait until you call to make the reservation and ask MS to bank the points on the same call, but before you ask for the reservation to be made.

If you are trying to get concierge at AKV, I would call at least one day prior to making the reservation to get the banking done. The concierge villas go very, very quickly!

I would also bank in advance if I were planning to book online, no matter where or what I wanted to book.

to add on to this thread my question is if bank my 2012 points and then decide that we decide to travel to WDW for a couple of days in 2012 can I make the change again to use this year?

Nope, once banked they are banked. You'd have to borrow from the next UY to get points to use.

banking and borrowing are both FINAL transactions. once you move pts from one use year to another use year, the pts cannot be moved again...that new use year is where they have to be used or else they expire.

You would need to borrow 2013 points for a last minute 2012 trip if you have already banked your 2012 points.
