We are staying at the Poly 1/14-1/19. I want to eat breakfast at the Kona Cafe one day, not sure which, to try the Tonga Toast. Do I need to make reservations? TIA!

It depends on what time and what day. If you were trying at 9:00 or 10:00 on a Saturday you should have an ADR, but if mid-week and at an early or late time you will probably be OK.

Best to have one if you definitely want to eat there.

Make a reservation. I tried for 3 days to get in for breakfast and they were booked solid. This was the second week of December. I ended up ordering the Tonga Toast via room service.

You could make an ADR for one of the days to be sure you get in during your stay. If you want to try another day, you can always cancel your ADR if you get in before your ADR date.

We were at the Poly 12/4-12/9, we ate breakfast there 2 mornings and unfortunately did not have any ADRs, we were eating late 9:30 one day and 10:00 the next, so we thought there would be no wait....not true, on Wednesday and Thursday we had a 1/2 hour to 45 minute wait.
The breakfast was great, but it seems like they were kind of short handed, so even though there were tables available they were not seating people as quickly as they could have. Once we were seated, we did have good service.
I would make an ADR if I were you.

Yes, definitely make one. We had an ADR for dinner there one night and still ended up having to wait for about an hour just to get in. We would not have been able to get in at all without an ADR.

We ate at Kona for breakfast twice during our stay 12/14 - 12/18. We ate there on Friday and Saturday morning. We did not have ADR's and they seated us right away - we were a party of 6. That being said, if you know you want to eat there, I would go ahead and make an ADR. You never know!

Probably good advice--tho we do breakfast at Kona each and every trip (on Sundays) and never made any ADR. Had to wait a few minutes once or twice, but most times we walk right on in. There are usually 2 (and sometimes 4) of us, and we eat at 8:30 or so.
Should add that when you arrive you may see a large crowd milling about in the vicinity of Kona--but 99% of those folks are just waiting for the character bkfst at O'hana.

If we are staying offsite for the first few days in Orlando and want to go to Kona for breakfast, do we have to pay for parking before we get to the Poly?

Thanks

IF there is room, you can go directly to the Poly and park on their lot for breakfast. You will probably be given a 3 hour parking pass-which is designed to ensure folks don't use the Poly lot for free parking when they go to the MK.
You can get to the Poly directly by getting in the far right lane when you arrive at the MK main lot--that will get you to the POly w/o having to pay for parking at the main MK lot.
I would suggest tho that if you do intend on going to the MK after breakfast at Kona, you park in the MK lot and then just use the walkway which will lead you to the Poly and Kona. That's how we always do it.

Thank You
That was the parking fee info I was thinking of. This would probably be breakfast and then back offsite for the remainder of the day.

Cheers
John
