Me and my boyfriend are going on 24 august, the last 2 visits were in october and we never had a problem with any bugs - I have heard that there maybe more bugs in the summer months but i'm not sure if they are of the bitting variety, do i need to buy any insect repellant or not?

Have never used insect repellant on any trip to Florida (including August) but I know a lot of people do take it.

My DW seems to get bitten very easily on trips to other places but she has never had a problem in Orlando during the summer.

Hi
I'm the total oposite to the previous post. I never get bitten, but on the last holiday(April) I was bitten quite a few times, mainly on the legs.
While I was shopping in Walmart, I did notice some sun cream that had a built in bug repellant in it so maybe that is the way to go.

I noticed Boots Soltan range comes in either with our without insect repellent.

Never used insect repellent before but have been bitten mainly around the feet - I think it was ants...!!!

Ditto Red-Snapper.

On our three previous visits we have never encountered a problem with bugs (Touch Wood!!).

The last time we went I bought Avon's 'Skin-So-Soft' Woodland Fresh, it is a dry oil body spray. It was on a recommendation from these boards. I have since heard a lot people swear by it!!

No bites either, so it must have worked ;)

boots soltan range is buy one get one free at the moment.

I've bought factor 25 spray with insect repellent.

We go to Florida every year July/August and we have never had to use a repellant, but last year I had a very nasty bite from an ant when we visited watermania. I had to seek medical attention has it caused large blisters and my foot to swell. Apparantly I had a bad reaction to the bite and have been advised to take anti-histameen(sp) tablets on my next visit as a precaution.

Thanks for your help everyone - shall just see how it goes, can always nip to walmart for repellant if any little suckers have a nibble!

If you do get bitten, I have found there is a "treatment" that does take the itch out of the bites. I don't remember the name of it, but it is in a container that looks like a fibretip pen and you dab it on and around the bite. It's in most supermarkets and drugstores in the US.

I dont usually get bitten but ive returned home today with quite a few bites from the past two weeks. One of which I was told could be a spider bite. The bite was on my calf and got quite infected asked at ASMo's if there was doctor just in case I needed anti-biotics and they called the paramedics. ( HOW EMBARRASING) anyway to cut along story short, they said if my leg didnt fall off in a couple of days not to worry. I took anti-histermines and used that stick from the previous post which is 'Benedryl' which was brilliant and stopped it itching.

Found a yellow spider in the car got blasted with insect repellent and i never got bit again. It was quite a big one too! YUK!!!!!

So my advice go prepared and if you dont need to use anything in the end then its a bonus!
