No, only the person who made the reservation needs to check in. You will want to have their Magic Bands with you, though, so they can be activated to unlock your resort room door.

I plan on doing online check in. I haven't stayed onsite at WDW since the Magicbands started. Will they mail them? Or would I need to get them at check in?

If you live in the US, after you customize them, they will mail them to you about a month before your check in date. If you live outside the US, you get them at check in.

Once you room is assigned, that rooms lock will be coded to match the MBs you have, nothing has to be "done" to your MB.

As long as he is on the reservation, he can check you out. I rarely have actually stopped at the front desk before leaving to actually check out in quite a while unless I knew I had a balance that I wanted to pay with a different card than was on file.

No one needs to physically check you out. The bill will be put under your door the night before your check out with charges being automatically applied to the credit card you leave on file. If you have no questions or concerns about it, you don't have to do anything further.

Pixie Dust and magic. They just work when you get there (at least they always have for us, I suppose that there are hiccups at times, but it's all done magically for the most part)

None of us have ever gone to the desk to check out. We just leave. I've never been told otherwise.

If you do online check in and receive a text that your room is ready, then you can just head straight to your room. If you receive a text that your room is not ready, then you can decide to either head to the parks or you can go to the check in desk and have them check your reservation and give you information like the resort map and activity schedule. If you don't receive any texts at all then you have to go to the check in desk.

THIS! It will make my life so much easier.
We're heading to WDW from US and have an ADR at Kona that first night - leaving US and checking in at WDW. I was trying to maximize the time at US for the kids before heading over and thought I could check us all in while they're at the parks with Dad.

add your cell phone to the check in information and your room assignment will be texted to you as soon as your room is ready. If for some reason you don't get the text, you can find one of the CM standing around by the main lobby entrance holding an ipad and they can tell you your room assignment. Other than that, you can just go to your room whenever it's convenient for you.
