Do I need an ADR for lunch in January?

We have not been to WDW since 2003, so we have not had to deal with the DDP or the "not really a slow time at WDW anymore" crowds.

We will be there from January 9-16th and want to go to Le Cellier for lunch, just to have Cheese Soup and Pretzel bread like we have done in the past. We always pretty much walked in before, but should I plan on making an ADR now? :confused3

If you really, really want to eat there and have a specific date in mind, I would make an ADR. If you can afford to be flexible and it won't be the end of the wrold if you can't get in, I would take the risk -especially as it's January and (presumably) just the two of you.

For Le Cellier, I would probably make an ADR. It's the most difficult restaurant to get a walk in spot. Last February, I ate there twice for lunch (with an ADR) and they were telling people that they wouldn't know until after they opened if they could take any walk ins or not. They did end up taking a few, but they were people who were there right when the restaurant opened (and it was on a week day, if that makes a difference) so I don't know if they took any later on or not.

I usually don't make a lot of ADR's for my Jan/Feb trips way in advance. I tend to make them a day or two out, or sometimes even same day. But I'm also content with CS if I can't get a TS spot.

Since you have something specific in mind and it sounds like you really want to do it, make the reservation. It's free, it doesn't hurt to call, and then it's one less thing to think about before your trip. You don't have to call 180 days out and lunch times are a lot easier to get than dinner times. But I'd still have that reservation to ease my mind.

You'll be there for the marathon and that brings out lots of adult guests who like to have a good meal. You'd better have an ADR for all your meals.

Also, keep in mind that you will be there the week before the big marathon (Jan 12-13).

I would recommend that you call and make an ADR....if you decide you don't want to go then you can call and cancel and someone can get lucky with a walk in....but if you don't have an ADR you may find yourself disappointed.

Get an ADR so you won't be disappointed. Walking in is near impossible, as pointed out earlier.

Even though it's January, I would definitely make an ADR for anywhere you really want to eat.

We went in January 2006, and I definitely didn't think we'd need a lot of ADR's. Of course I made ADR's for the places I wanted to eat, just in case. But one day, we went to Animal Kingdom Lodge to visit, and decided to see if there was a long wait at Boma. There was a 2 hour wait!!

YES YES YES!!! Make ADR's. I am crabby about the whole ADR thing. We are going to be there Jan 1-10. I asked for LeCeller, any day, lunch or dinner and it was all booked. I called everyday up to 8 times a day for over 2 weeks and finally got a 2:20 reservation. This place better be worth it!!!

After that lesson I made one ADR for every day we are there so we don't end up eating hamburgers for every meal!

Wow  , thanks everyone for the advice.

Since this is a budget trip for us and we are doing all CS except for California Grill for our 25th (which I have an ADR for!), I had not really thought about needing an ADR for lunch! But having Cheese Soup is pretty important to my family, so I guess I had better get my dialing fingers ready. :goodvibes
