Do I need a Double Stroller?

Wea re going to Disney next month with our boys ages 3 and 4. My question is should we take the double stroller. DS 4 has not been in a stroller for a very long time but I know DS3 will need one. We have been to DIsney many times but the last time I was there with the kids they were 9 months and 2yrs and we did have the double.

Hi! We went when DS was 4 and the first day he didn't want anything to do with being in a stroller, but by the second day he was asking for one. We rented at the park and he was a much happier tourist There is so much walking and I think it is just harder for there little legs than ours. That is just how our trip/experience was last time.

I would bring an umbrella stroller for your youngest and then when you get to the parks rent a double, I have two boys 4 and 2 and that is what I have done. You can leave your single stroller at the stroller rental, they tag it and leave it in the back, when you return the double, you give them the storage ticket, and they will give you back your single stroller.

Whene we went last Easter our 6 yr old twins and our 5 yo asked to be in strollers. They were tired from walking. It is also easier to keep track of them in the crowds.

We brought a single and a double for my DD4, DS 3 & DS18mo. The youngest got the single and the older two shared the double. We considered renting a double at the parks but they're not very comfortable -- hard plastic with no padding. There's a lot of walking and although the 3 & 4 year old don't usually ride in the stroller anymore, they were happy to get a rest. We also made it a rule that they had to ride in the stollers when we were walking from ride to ride -- as long as we were moving the strollers -- it made it so much easier to keep track of them in the crowds.

I agree with the use the double stroller crowd, I've always used one and never felt it was a waste.

YES! Bring the double stroller, you won't regret it. Especially since you've used it before, you know the drill. Your children will definitely both still make use of the stroller. Our kids are 8, 5, and 3 and we were glad to have a stroller seat for each of them (brought the double and an umbrella) for the entire trip, especially at night if they fell asleep while we were still in the parks.

I too think both of your kids will need a stroller. I don't know which type of double you have but I refused to take our Graco Duoglider with us because it's too bulky. I'd much rather take two umbrella strollers.

I would definately suggest it.

We took two strollers for our trip last year. I took a lightweight fully reclining stroller for the baby (3 monthsold) and then I purchased one of the lightweight jeep double strollers, thinking my 2 & 3 year old would sit most of the time.

My 2 year old did a lot of sitting and my 5 year old surprised me by wanting to sit alot more. She hasn't been a stroller for years.
My 3 year old was too excited and ran most of the time.

All in all though, the 2 year old sat the most and my 3 & 5 year old switched off. It was definately a good idea, especially when one or two of them are falling asllep midday or at the nights end.

Thanks everyone. I willt ake the double. We have a Maclaren Duo that I got last year at a good price used for the sole purpose of this trip. I just wanted to make sure that I will would still need it.

We have a Peg Perego Tender Twin tandem double stroller. We chose it specifically because of the room it has for older/bigger children. On our last trip our 8 yo daughter was stil able to fall asleep in it. Probably not all that confortably, but she still fits.

A Maclaren double would be the best stroller for you, since they hold children up to 55 lbs (I think) on each seat. You can find them at www.albeebaby.com

Thanks for the info. I have a Mac (single) for my DD1 and I really don't like it at all (weird I know I must be the only one on the planet). I did go to that albee.com and checked them out. I will keep them in mind when we go to Babies R Us in a couple of weeks and try them.

I was thinking last night we might just get a double stroller at the park for our stuff and in case DD4 (or DS7) needs a break. I've rented a single stroller from abbf.com for my DD1 - I am bringing the Mac for the airport/resort. I might leave it at the airport on the way home. Just kidding! Too expensive - I'll try to sell it.

I have and really like the Chicco Citta double ( they make a single too) I use it only on Disney trips for my almost 2 and 4 y/o's. The seats are huge and comfy. my DD4 can still take naps in it. she is 38lbs and very tall for her age. I like it because it has two huge baskets under each seat, adjustable sunshade and it is not that heavy.

I usually use a Sit and Stand for an everyday stroller. At Disney kids poop-out at some point and will need a place to nap or just rest.

Also, the Chicco Citta was less than $150. I can't remember, but I know I didn't pay much. I got it on line.

I agree with taking two singles it is easier to get through the crowds manage on the busses etc.

If you're renting, for sure go with the double. You will NOT regret it.

I'd say absolutely bring it! You never know when a child might be tired and want to ride it in. We have a picture of both of ours sleeping our last trip to Orlando. We have the Graco Duoglider and the jeep side-by-side umbrella stroller. Each has its advantage. The jeep is much lighter, but since it is side-by-side, it is also harder to get in door-ways and through crowds. It also has less storage space (although you can hang stuff on the handles. The Graco is bulkier and takes more room in a rental car, but it has TONS of storage space for things like purchases. We have used both for travelling, but tend to lean toward the jeep at this point just because it takes so much less room. I also found that unless you rent your car seats from a car rental agency (if you're renting a car), they're also great for holding small luggage or car seats when you're working your way through the airport!

We just returned today from an 8 day trip and we rented a double stroller every day for DS7 and DD5. They did not use it all the time but we were definately able to see and do more in a day than if they would have had to walk all the time. Also, they could both nap as needed.

My kids are too big for strollers here at home (DS9 DS7 DD6 and DD4.) That being said we always have and always will rent a double stroller at WDW. They can walk to the park from the bus and from the bus to the hotel but all the park walking is too much to ask from those little legs! The boys walk most of the time but they still get a few turns in the stroller!

Besides we bring some cup holders and every one has a place to keep their cups when we are on a ride. It makes life easier! And it is great to have a place to meet. "Meet back here at the stroller!"

So whether you rent or bring your own I say a stroller is a necessity!
