I'm a little confused. I logged in to the Disney website today and noticed that Magic Bands and FP+ are available to me now.

Do I have to use FP+ now that it was made available to me? Can I just use the regular, paper FPs instead? Can I use both?

I don't really like the idea of scheduling the rides in advance. It's less than a month until my trip, and I still don't know which park I'm going to each day. Not to mention I got park hoppers. I guess I can only pick 1 park per day if I use FP+?

:confused3

You can use both, one or none. We loved the bands and FP+ combined with strategic legacy FP.

I totally understand, FP+ is turning me into a planner. I'm making my FPs for early in the morning or late afternoon. We can park hop if we want but I like the idea of the FP+ for wishes, illuminations, Fantasmic and the parades. They have sectioned off areas.
If I was you I'd try it, you can always change the FPs the day of if you prefer a different park. September is the slowest month of the year.

Since you used both FP+ and regular FP, what did you use to enter the parks : the bands or KTTW/or park tickets?? I want to use a card to pull FP but if I scan the magic band to enter parks, I'm wondering if the KTTW card will show that I didn't enter the parks.

I think if you're staying in a test resort, the difference between testing or not testing is being handed the box with the bands and bothering to schedule and use it. I haven't seen anything yet that makes me doubt that anybody who was testing couldn't have decided to heck with this, tossed the bands and went on with their vacation as usual (except for those who were told they couldn't use legacy Fastpass and never bothered to try).

I used out bands to enter the park. We used our current RFID KTTW card to pull legacy FP and a non-RFID KTTW from Feb 2012 which also gave another set of legacy FP. We also tried our YES tickets from the Feb 2012 trip which would not give legacy FP.

Exactly. We saw lots of grey bands (what you get when you don't customize) and lots of people without bands at YC.

If that's possible then I don't mind using FP+ at all! Is it connected at all to the paper FP system? As in, I can't get a regular FP during the time slots I have a FP+? Also, how do I get regular FPs, will I also get a KTTW card?

I had no idea there was FP+ for those things! I thought it was just rides...that is really cool!

So I'll be getting the bands in addition to the regular cards they used to give out? Do the cards have RFID too so I could use those instead of the bands and just keep them in my lanyard?

Yes, you will get a RFID KTTW card (though that is subject to change at any moment, I think we're safe for another month or two). FP+ and legacy FP are not linked. So, you only have the legacy FP restrictions on the legacy FP and FP+ restrictions on the FP+. There really is no big downside to testing, as you can stop using the bands at any point. Some people have had problems, but the reports of major time consuming problems are getting more and more spaced out.

That's good to know! I'll definitely use both. Maybe not every day but I'll at least try it for the fireworks, parades and my favorite rides.

Thank you so much for your help! :goodvibes

We have customized our MB and picked out our FP+. It was kind of hard trying to figure out where we were going to be that far ahead of time etc. But I told DH we will try to use the scheduled ones, and I love having them, but we won't kill ourselves trying to follow a strict schedule just because we have a FP+ for a ride. :upsidedow

If we are somewhere doing something spur of the moment, great! I'll try to reschedule it on the app, but if not I'm not worried about it. We also plan to use FP- paper tickets too. So we are considering them more of we've got them bonus and will use them as we can. I don't want to take all the magic away planned down to the minute running here and there and miss out on the special unplanned things that pop up. :beach:

So let me make sure I understand- right now they are allowing you to use FP+ AND regular fast pass on the same date in the same park?

Last I heard if you used/tested FP+ you were not allowed to pull any paper fastpasses in the park you were using it in on that day. You could go to a different part and use paper FPs. So for example, if you used FP+ in MK on Wednesday- you couldn't use the regular FP system there on Wednesday, but you could hop over to EPCOT and use their regular FP system. Has that now changed?

Also, last I heard if you were in a test group, you were only using FP+ for 3 days of your trip, not the whole trip. Has that changed too? Is it being used for every day of the trip now?

Are people now being given KTTW plus their magic bands, because I also heard it was one or the other.

IF- I was given BOTH a KTTW card and a magic band and IF I was allowed to do FP+ and also use the regular FP system, THEN I would be inclined to agree to test. The 3 FP+ limit just doesn't cut it for us. My fear is that I would agree to test and then they would change everything.

I'm going in October, so this is all from what we know from others reporting back right now and what we've been told about now to October.

Yes, you can use FP+ and old FP paper tickets in the same park on the same day for your whole trip that you have park tickets. I have 10 day MYW tickets with Park Hoppers, so we picked 10 days worth of FP+ choices. 3 choices each day, (but some have reported a bonus 4th in the MK) but we haven't gotten that yet in October. You are given a KTTW card as a backup when you check in, along with your magic band if you had not already received yours at your house after customizing early online.

We have already customized our MBs and will get them in September. You can use your KTTW card to get FP- tickets in park. Does not matter if you have FP+ scheduled or not. Hope that helps :)

I share your fear!!!!!

In addition to this fear, I will be purchasing APs - and am worried about whatever limitations they may add to them willy nilly.

You don't have to use it yet. Someday you will have to, but as long as they are in testing phase you don't. It seems to have been established that at some point there will be no more paper fastpasses, but that's still in the future, and probably a ways off.

You heard pretty much exactly the opposite of what everyone is experiencing. Nothing has changed. This is the way it's been since the start of the widespread testing in August. When we tested from 8/17/13-8/23/13 everything I said above was true.
