Do I have back pain or kidney pain?

I will tell you my sotory about this - I had had back pain for a while, so that was nothing new. But it seemed to get worse and the pain was so bad and I started running a fever - a very HIGH fever - I had no idea how high it was until I went to the docotor. I wnet to the quick medical clinic to get something for my back pain - and I whatever was causing me to feel so bad. They took my temperature - looked at it in disbelief - and said there is no way that is right, let's take it again. I said okay, but what did it say - and she said almost 105!! :scared1: Took it again and yep, it was right, right around 104.9. They figured out it was a kidney infection, NOT just back pain. Gave me meds and sent me on my way. The next day my fever came back and I thought I was dying. I couldnt even drink a glass of water without throwing it up almost right away. I went to the ER and no joke, my BP was around 60/30 - they freaked and admitted me right away. All for this kidney infection. I was there two days.

Now I know I seem like I am rambling here, but if you arent sure, go to the doctor! It can be very serious and I thought it was just back pain to begin with.

Thank you for that response. My pain is annoying but I wouldn't say its unbearable. It just feels like my back/side hurts from sitting in a wrong way. My urine is cloudy though and that worries me.

13 years ago, I went to the doctor for the same exact thing.....he's 12 now.

Any chance??

i haven't had that terrible kidney stone pain described. i have sludge instead of 1 (or more) bigger stones, so it's just constant irritation from the kidneys to the ureters and bladder. and repeated infections. my pain was more like what the OP described. i would get it checked before it turns worse.

When I had a kidney infection I had pain similar to what you are describing...I thought at first that I had just pulled a muscle and didn't think anything more about it until I spiked a temp of 103 at work and called my dr and she said to leave work and go right to her office and she then tested my urine and told me that I did in fact have a kidney infection.....I would advise you go to the dr, if it is a kidney infection or even a UTI then you can get antibiotics for it....good luck I hope you feel better

i've had one kidney stone in my life and it was VERY, VERY painful. I had a catscan done---mine was very small---had a strainer and everything. I hope that you feel better soon :)

Could it be pain radiating from an ovary. I know I have had pain in my back caused from ovarian cysts.
Yep.

Ask your OB to send you for an ultrasound. They can look for the cyst on the ovary. Mine come & go with my cycles. Good luck!

Question,I'm A man and had passed A kidney stone 2yrs ago, would you call the pain equal to childbirth?
When I had it I was crawled up in A ball dare not move or breathe heavy for almost 1/2 A day..The very worst pain I ever encountered!!

I've never passed a kidney stone but I have given birth and what you are describing sounds worse! Although childbirth is no picnic in the park. What's bad about childbirth is that your breathing is affected because your body is trying to work hard at something you have little control of.
