I just wanted to say that I see nothing wrong with "girly" legos. I'm glad they made them actually!
Honestly, legos never seemed gender neutral to me, ever. I think legos, I think boy. Not saying girls shouldn't or don't play with them, just that I automatically think boy! I don't think it in a negative way, that's just how my brain works. I haven't been dumbed down or subconsciously told what role I must play. I grew up with two brother's and my single mother.
If I were a little girl now, I wouldn't even want to play with the girly legos because they just never held any appeal to me. I was only about baby dolls, Cabbage Patch Kids, colorforms, playdough, crayons, etc. I wasn't into Barbie either. I liked girly colors and I HATED going down the "boy" aisles with my brothers.
If I was to have this new lego set as a child, I can guarantee you that if they were more "complicated", I would lose interest, walk away from it, and play house. Yes! I'm that stereotypical nightmare girl!
Funny thing is, is that as a teen and an adult, I wasn't the typical "girly girl" and I wasn't a "tomboy" either. I was the girl who wore tshirts and sneakers who hated sweating and getting dirty and aspired to be a SAHM who wrote books during my downtime. Calling Freud!
Anyway, I bet they did a study with a bunch of little girls and just averaged out the time spent playing with these sets and "dumbed them down" to the average time the attention was focused on the building process.
