Do DISForums bring you down?

Some of the posts do bring me down and make me panic, but then I remember how much we laugh on Tower of Terror and imagine how delicious the chicken and waffle sandwich at MK will be. If it's not, well then I'm screwed. It will ruin the whole trip and I'll never go back. (sarcasm). Right! If people think that Disney is broken, then they shouldn't go. Complain to Disney. I always thought the boards were to help others have a good time and maybe what to be aware of. It's okay to say the food was bad at (fill in the blank Restaurant) and the CM was not helpful, but did they make an honest complaint at the time it happened? Some people should re-read what they have typed before posting. I have deleted many a post before hitting the button myself.

I watched an Unplugged podcast on Youtube just last night where the group was in Delaware. Pete mentioned that years ago he had made a comment about All Star Sports. He got an email from a lady who had been saving for 3 years to go to WDW and this was all she could afford. She was heartbroken that her trip would be ruined. He felt horrible and have subsequently been more careful what he says. He told people to take things with a grain of salt. I would like to add, before you post, remember you may ruin someone's trip with your words. My first trip was marred by very cold weather and my friend still brings it up (we thought it would be warmer and were ill prepared). I choose to remember the delicious dinner at V&A for her 50th birthday and how we laughed so hard on Spaceship Earth watching ourselves in the silly cartoon. I went back the next year in September and brought my husband. We had a great time! We didn't make rope drop and it was three days later I remembered what a fast pass was. Any vacation is what you make it. Complainers rarely have fun anywhere they go and will always find something wrong.

1. "FP+ Was AWESOME!" threads are technically just as unhelpful to theme park planning as "FP+ SUCKED" threads are.

2. THIS thread isn't germane to theme park planning and is frankly just another negative thread.

See, this is exactly what I don't understand.

This is ostensibly a trip planning board. You're not going to Disney World. Given how many things have changed, your previous experience at Disney World is going to become more and more outdated. So you can't offer much in the way of attraction and strategy touring tips to others, and you certainly don't need them yourself. Why aren't you over on the DLR boards getting excited about your future trips, instead of here?

Is the whole purpose of this board, for you, just a place to vent about what you don't like about Disney World?

I guess you're right, there is absolutely nothing I might offer in the way of tips and strategies for anyone looking to tour WDW since my previous visit was all of five months ago.

It's actually kind of the opposite for me now. Reading how people bent rules & exploited loopholes was depressing to me. I'm glad to see WDW make an effort to put a stop to it. It would be nice to check the FP+ threads, w/o having to read through the same complaints from the same people over & over.

I have noticed there is more negative talk about FP+ than positive.

You should also have noticed most of the negative FP+ posts come from the same people voicing the same complaints & snarky remarks repeatedly. I've noticed that many of these same posters were the ones complaining the most loudly about the change to requiring a CC to book ADRs. They were going to stop making ADRs & some even said they would quit vacationing at WDW back then. Some people like to work the system & are very quick to put down any changes that may prevent that. Some of us are glad to see the loop holes filled.

Exactly! We haven't used FP+ yet, but I'm not concerned about it. I don't need to ride the same ride multiple times possibly preventing others from riding at all. It's not all about me. I'd be very surprised if the majority of Disney guests aren't happy to see the playing field leveled a little. These same guests probably won't be upset to see those pushing the limits at others expense go elsewhere on vacation.

I usually spend some time here in the lead up to my trips. This place just comes across as negative; and I get that FP+ has changed things. But lighten up people. So you may only ride Soarin once. Did you really need to see another 6 sets of feet hanging above you to enjoy your time with your family while not working? WDW is supposed to be Magical, but often DIS just comes across as a looney bin convention.

You and me would be best friends. I accept this based on your above post.

The DIS has taught me a LOT of great information- but any more it's a sarcasm-fest based on the small handful of people who rehash the same arguments over and over to prove some silly point.

Yes, this place is a downer for sure. People offer opinions on their experience at a party they went to and they get ripped apart for everything from how they typed their post, their formatting and somehow their opinion is wrong.

The biggest thing that makes this place a downer is lack of human decency in responding to people in these threads. Maybe FP+ has ticked off a lot of people and it makes them feel better to belittle others, but this is not a happy place to spend much time.

Despite the complaints about FP+, I'm still optimistic it won't turn out to be so bad. I look at the addition of FP+ as another (fun) challenge to overcome during the process of planning my vacation. I take the negative threads with a grain of salt - they aren't going to make me enjoy Disney any less!

Most of the time I spend on this site is lurking around the trip report boards anyway, which are always positive and entertaining.

So the only way someone would be dissatisfied by the changes Disney is making is because they were an abuser of the system in the past & can't get away with it now? I guess WDW won't have to worry about how high to set the bar for guest satisfaction, because however Disney does everything will be good enough.

For your own edification, some of the people Disney is turning off with their current procedures include long-time visitors who don't abuse the system or the other guests.

I was hoping to read about all the fun recent visitors are having.

The first time I ran across the Dis, seemed like half the threads in this forum were rants about something I can't even remember. In my mind, the Dis was "that Disney board where everyone's always screaming." But it always turned up when I was googling for anything WDW related, and eventually I got enough useful info here I started reading regularly. By that point I had a little more fannish discussion board experience under my belt, so when the next issue blew up I just shifted over to the Resorts boards or whatever and eventually I signed on and joined the fun.

A friend of mine on another board once linked to an article on discussion boards; happy times alternating with people blowing up over some issue and, eventually, some stomping off on a huff while others adjust to the new situation is apparently part of a common cycle no matter what brings people together. Not sure why that is, but I've certainly seen it more than once here.

Disney is redistributing the vacation wealth and that's hard to swallow when you've been the ones on the good end for so long.

Agreed. But I also agree with you that some of the beneficiaries are first timers, which I think is good.

I think it lowered my expectations, and I thought our trip was fabulous!

I generally hit the Disney Dining board when I'm tempted to make an ADR somewhere spectacularly pricey, and somehow that desire then goes away almost entirely.

Sigh. I think one of the most interesting parts of the DIS is when people actually discuss what Disney is trying to do with something like FP+ and how it will affect our touring of the parks. This is when it's most helpful and interesting. If I want to see everything with a rosy perspective, I can watch Disney's commercials or vacation planning videos.

What's less inspiring is the back-and-forth of people saying they're too negative while others call them shills for Disney and push in the opposite direction.

We can have educated discussions with negatives and positives going back and forth. The DIS would be a pretty dull place without some dissension among the ranks.
