Do dark rides mess with your vision?

This is my first year where I've truly seen a need for my glasses. I wore them on most rides but still felt like the dark parts of different rides really bothered my eyes. On rides like EE and Dinosaur, I ended up closing my eyes to lessen the effect.

DH didn't have any issues. He has contacts. My eye doctor doesn't want to give me contacts but we may be having a conversation about that at my next visit.

My vision kind of messes with dark rides. They adjust to changes in light very slowly. I prefer to ride them at night, because if I come in from the daylight I may miss the first few scenes while my eyes adjust.

I have astigmatism and my eyes are very sensitive to light. I'm not sure if they are related or not though. I wear contacts most of the time and I seem to have more of a problem with it when I am wearing my contacts as opposed to my glasses, though I'm still a bit light sensitive when I wear my glasses.

I find that watching Fantasmic gets almost painful by the end of the show  I have to close my eyes and by the end my eyes are usually watering and I can barely keep them open. So, needless to say, Fantasmic isn't a big priority for me :confused3

Anyway, sorry I don't have any suggestions other than talk to your doctor about it. I probably should too to see if there's anything that can be done for it :confused3

That's interesting because my problem is also astigmatism.

ETA sad to say I drifted off during fantasmic.

I have this same issue. The worst for me is Fantasmic - not from the show but because of all the 1000+ cheap light up swords that all the kids are waving around. Talk about an instant headache and watery eyes.

Slightly different issue with me but I find that when I exit a dark ride into the sunlight, I can't see anything apart from lots of black and white dots for at least 30-40 seconds (I wear both glasses and contacts). I also have astigmatism and my optician said I also had 'slow reacting lenses' making my eyes take longer to adjust from dark to bright light. My hubby has to lead me away from the exit out of the way of people until I can see again :rotfl:
