Do concerts get cancelled for nor'easters???

They said on the news that she wouldn't be able to reschedule. I think the biggest problem is that she won't be able to get here. She will be coming from Toronto -concert there is at 7PM on Sat night. Even if she left right after the concert she will be coming through the storm if it hits when predicted (Sat night around 11 PM)

They should refund ticket prices -I feel really bad for all the kids that will be disappointed. We haven't had that many blizzards in the last few years, I am sorry for the timing on this one. Maybe the storm will get delayed enough for her to get in.

You could make it a fun weekend anyhow. I believe a couple of the downtown hotels have indoor pools. I remember one time my brother's electricity went out his family spent a night at a downtown hotel -went swimming, ordered a movie and had room service. They had a great time.

we were thinking that - make it a weekend. Saturday I think I read they are doing "White Christmas" at the auditorium and we are gonna hit Eastview Saturday before it gets bad. I have to find DD's bathing suit!!!!

Yes, White Christmas is playing.

I just rechecked the weather - it now says that the snow is expected to start around midnight on Sat. (or is that Sun morning?) so there is a chance if it gets delayed more that she will make it. But, it will hit Buffalo 1st and she has to go through there to get here. And, Sunday is supposed to be windy with zero visibility at times. If that happens, and it snows as hard as expected then they may issue a "no unnecessary travel" advisory and I think they would have to cancel the concert. It is the wind that is the biggest problem. Maybe Mylie will be stranded here!

About 7 years ago, DH and I were in NYC for the long President's Day weekend. Billy Joel was in concert at the Meadowlands. The show was cancelled due to snow. In NYC it was only a few inches and wasn't too bad out, but Joel was at home on Long Island where it was way worse. I'm figuring the show was probably cancelled because he couldn't get there rather than because the roads were too bad for ticket holders to get there. So, yes, it could happen. I still think it would be fun to stay in a hotel for two nights during a snow storm though!

I'm actually just north of the city and we don't see as much as south. This time it looks like the south towns and southern tier aren't going to get as much as the city and northwards. They are saying blizzard like conditions at times on Sunday! It's supposed to start sometime after 10pm tomorrow.

BTW, Toronto to Rochester is a 3 hour drive. It's 90 minutes minimum from the outskirts of the city of Toronto with no traffic, if you have traffic it will take a lot more time. Over the summer it took us 2 1/2 hours to get to Toronto. It is then at least an hour from the border to Rochester suburbs, to actually get into the city will take a bit longer. I drive to both cities on a fairly regular basis.

Busses coming over the border, I'd say more like 2 hours because of all the extra traffic we get from Canada for shopping now that their dollar is so strong.

They will be crossing at 2:00 am or so, and all documentation will be in order before they get to the border--passports, manifests, it's all very organized months in advance. I've done a couple dozen border crossings as part of a road crew, it was normally about a ten minute process from start to finish--even with a multi-national band and crew. The only time it took longer was once when they decided to bring the dogs onto the bus, not sure what they were looking for, but they didn't find anything. That took an extra 20 minutes. It can take longer, but it's not like Greyhound where they really check everyone. Before you can work in Canada or the US you need working papers, so everyone is already pre-cleared. It could take up to an hour if you've got a few trucks in front of you, but it's not common at that time of the night coming over the border at Lewiston.

In 12/04 I went to Clausfest in NYC in a blizzard. Thank God for NJ Transit, there was no way I was driving in that mess. All of the bands made it except Chevelle, they were snowed in up in Boston. It's not just snow that will cancel a band, a few years ago a band I was supposed to see didn't make it because they were fogged in down in Texas someplace.

I guess I am going to plan on leaving for Rochester around 5 or 6pm tommorrow and then whatever happens so be it.:goodvibes I know we will have a good time either way but I hope I can make it back for work on Monday morning at 9am. My kids don't want to mess up their perfect attendance either:rolleyes: :teacher: Weird kids:lmao:

That's if they do Lewiston, I don't know anyone from this area that actually uses that bridge. We all usually take the Peace bridge or The Rainbow in the Falls. Rainbow is actually the closest for us. Peace Bridge gets most of the truck traffic. But I only know what I know from crossing the border in a car for years and years and being stuck in the traffic. Never been on a roadie bus.

Also wanted to post this for those traveling to the show. This is a small portion of the weather alert from weather .com for my zip code (14217)

THIS IS A DANGEROUS STORM SYSTEM THAT WILL PRODUCE SIGNIFICANT IMPACTS ON TRAVEL DURING THE LATTER PART OF THE WEEKEND. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE TO TRAVEL ACROSS THE REGION ON SUNDAY, IT WOULD BE WISE TO STAY HOME. IF YOU NEED TO GET SOMEWHERE, SATURDAY WOULD BE A PREFERABLE TIME TO GET TO YOUR DESTINATIONS.

I can't imagine all those moms and kids all over the roads in the middle of a blizzard to get to Hannah Montana:eek:

Most tour buses use Lewiston for a variety of reasons--mostly because it's usually the least busy for middle of the night crossings, and 99.9% of the time the travel is done overnight. :)

The worst one is International Falls in Minnesota, they train a lot of border guards there, so they really do everything by the book.

we're off to Rochester!!!

everyone heading to the concert - keep your fingers crossed and drive safe!

to everyone with help and advice - thank you!!!!!:wizard:
