Do Canceled Rooms Open Up Often?

I'm booked for Oct at WL, but we recently received a letter from WDW letting us know about the main pool being closed. The pool at the villas will be open and I think they said we could use the pool at the CR if we wanted...

To be honest, I don't think it's a big deal, but I know my 8 y/o niece will want to swim. We may only go once or twice, but I think it's nice to have the option. I do wonder if the pool being closed and possibly empty might ruin a bit of the magic?

I was thinking of switching to the CR, but at this point only rooms are over 1k/night...

Is there a chance that rooms will open up as my dates get closer and people cancel? I'm even considering a split stay if it's not too much of a hassle...

I know packages have to be canceled before the 45 day mark, etc.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Personally, I would switch resorts. My kids are total water rats. A big part of what we look for in a resort is a good pool.

I don't think I would count on rooms opening up; lots of other people are in the same position as you and are scrambling for alternate accomodations.

Have you looked at the Epcot resorts?

Or would you consider one of the mods?

We will be there during the pool refurb too and are staying put. The villa pool is still an option, as is taking the boat to CR or FW and using their pool. Ultimately we chose WL for the great price and. MK proximity so staying made sense. If you booked it for a pool then maybe you do want to change resorts, though I'd doubt much will open up with free dining.

I have found that the 60 and 45 day marks often open a lot of rooms. That said, with the pool closure, there will be many people scrambling for them like you.

Still, it never hurts to look!!! Good luck!!

On our last WL trip we actually used the Villas pool because the main pool was a ZOO!!!:rotfl2:

You walk towards the lake make a quick right and you are there-no biggie-nice pool:)

Yes the do open up. I have seen great selections even a few days before going on a trip that have opened up.

Things do sometimes open up, but as others have said, in this situation there are others looking to change to a different resort for the same reason. With that said, I would keep trying for the CR as it never hurts to keep calling because you never know if/when something might become available. Good luck :wizard:.

Definitely possible. I wanted to add 3 nights to an Oct stay but BC was sold out, even rack rate! About a month ago it popped up and I made a separate reservation for those 3 nights. I will ask them to keep us in the same room at check-in if possible. So just keep checking, but booking a split stay in the meantime wouldnt hurt, just in case.

It's totally possible. You just have to keep checking often and hope for that pixie dust. I got mine on my last trip only 3 weeks out! Good luck.

Thanks for all the replies!

My niece loves to swim, like most kids, but I don't think the main pool being closed is any kind of deal breaker.

We can always use the pool at the villas when she wants to swim one evening or maybe even head over to the CR, etc.

A room actually popped up today and I was thinking of a split stay, but the CR tower bay lake view room was going to cost about the same for 4 nights as what I owe now for 8 at WL!

In the end, we're there for WDW and to enjoy the parks! We'll probably swim 1-2 times tops...besides, she swims plenty while home and is going to the beach this summer!

Again, thanks for all the help!
