I'm looking at some on ebay and one lady said they run small so a size L would fit an 8 girl? Is that right? None of the other listings mention they run big, small, or true to size...

Thanks for any info!!

Our Brownie uniform here in Canada do run small.

But I guess it all depends on the size of your child. Mine would have fit a med. but I thought she would out grow it half way though so I got her a large and fits fine and she is 8 going to be nine in May.

I don't know about the whole uniform, but I got the largest size vest I could find when my daughter was in 1st grade and was a size 7. It was a little big, but not by much. It lasted until she bridged to girl scouts.

Also, it does help if the vest is bigger to get all of the patches on.

Not sure but aren't Brownies only up until age 7-8? So I would guess that would be their large.:confused3
But I was kicked out of Brownies as a child so clearly I'm not the one to answer this question.:rotfl2:

I don't know about the other pieces, because we only used the vest. That said, buy the BIGGEST vest you can find....you'll be glad that you did when you start sewing dozens of patches on it. If you buy a small one, you'll run out of space quickly. My daughter was in brownies for two years, and the back of her vest was completely covered with patches with the patches almost touching one another.

Exactly!:thumbsup2 Plus, when it's too small for the bridging up ceremony, it makes for some funny pics:rotfl:

Hmm, dd8 is in Girl Scouts, so I just bought a big vest that she can grow into (she never will, she wears a size 6!).

I bought my 6 year old dd a Large Brownie vest (she is usually a size 6/6X) because she will be a Brownie for the next 3 years (Brownies goes from 1st - 3rd grade). The vest is alittle big (she would have fit nicely in a medium with room to spare). I wanted to make sure that all her patches and pins would fit during the whole 3 year Brownie span so I wouldn't have to go out an buy another one.

my dd8 has a medium vest. It fits fine/big in the width but the length is now too short. Since she will be finishing brownies and bridging up to juniors in 3 months I'm not buying a new one. If my youngest does brownies she will get a large.

Just fyi for upcoming years. I believe that now daisies will be k/1, brownies grades 2/3, junior grades 4/5 etc. It is still in transition. Also I heard it goes strictly by grades now not age but I'm not sure about that.

Thanks guys. The troop leader is buying the vests for the girls. I think she was getting them all Mediums thinking that would be big on them at age 7. I wish I'd opted out of that and gotten her the large instead.

I'm also thinking about the t-shirts and turtlenecks, maybe the blue blouse, and the jumper or skort. I've heard moms around here say none of the girls wear their uniform to school on troop meeting day. I was like :confused3 Why not?! I used to LOVE wearing my uniform, proudly. Is that everywhere, or just my snooty area? My daughter, bless her heart, told me she didn't care if anyone else wore theirs or not. She wants to wear hers!

My DD, and no one in her troop do not wear them to school. They really only wore them to special mtgs, to sell cookies, and sometimes to events.

My DD loves her vest though, now that it is complete, and everything on it. We are going to make a pillow out of it.

Around here, no one wears the uniform except for the vest. We lived in NY when my younger dd was in Brownies, and they only wore the uniform in 1st grade and not at school like we used to!

My daughter did 3 years of brownies and I bought her a medium so there was some growing room and it still had plenty of room by the time they finished up in 3rd grade. I find the sizes run about on target.

That is how it is here, started last year. Its fine for Daisys and Brownies but once Juniors start its much harder to earn the badges and you really have to get moving on the bronze award right away with all the steps they need to complete even before they work on the actual award. Just trying to get the parents to get out and get their kids all the community service for the leadership award is tough enough!

I always went bigger. Since now Brownies is only 2 years it wont be to bad. I sewed in snaps on her vest when she was in first grade. No need for snaps by the end of 3rd grade lol. We also ran out of room for patches.

I hear you about the bronze.. We are getting ready to start is now. Forget even trying the whole Journeys. There is not enough time.
