Do any of you have kids that are not Disney crazy and do not like the theme parks? Have you gone year after year and they have just gotten sick of it? I'm curious if any of you have family members that do not look forward to Disney vacations. What do you do?

Nope - all three of mine love it. They are already joking about who gets our DVC points (which will be a long way in the future, hopefully!) There is so much to do at WDW - even without going into the parks. Of course, at 22, 19, and 16 they still love the parks, the food, the characters. . .you get the idea. WDW has always been a magical place for us as a family. We have great memories from previous trips. I don't ever see them not wanting to go back to WDW!

I have a DS that had a great time at age 2yrs. Well that was the end. This boy would not allow himself to enjoy one bit of Disney after that trip. DH is not too thrill either. So the last 2 trips they stayed home. Well this year they both agreed to go, DS is 16 and looking forward to spending alot of time at Storm-a-long Bay at the YC. I'm really hoping for the best. Not sure if they'll repeat the visit any time soon. I don't know, some people are just not Disney people. I think I'd better bring extra Pixie Dust.;)

Last year was our first family trip at WDW. It is my 4th trip and 3rd at DL. We are going again this year and that makes it my 5th year in DW!! I told my DS 4 about it and he said to me "again?!" I just told him that we missed a lot of things to do and see so we are going back again. He want to try the Doubloon Lagoon Pool though at POFQ.

I think after this year, we will not be going for a while, it does gets kind of boring when you've seen it so many times!! We would love to try USF and IOA though maybe next year! I don't want my family to think that Disney is the only thing to see and do in this world. I love to venture out.

My 10yr old son has never quite caught the Disney magic, but I think he's catching on. We took him when he was 5, 7, 8, 9, and this year, 10. This was the first year that we (me, wife, 10 son, 3 daughter, 2 son) went as a family. My wife and I are HUGE fans and enjoy just the "experience", despite what we do there. Well, I think this was the first time that our 10 y/o figured it out. He watched the little ones react to the characters and it always put a smile on his face. He started really enjoying watching them enjoy Disney. I made sure that him and I would do "big kid" stuff, like E-Ride night and extreme water slides at the water parks. I think that when he first went, he was personally too old to enjoy the characters, so he never had any memories like myself or other kids do when they went at a young age. Maybe as he's growing up, he's starting to appreciate it more from a different perspective.

Our DD went to Disney for the first time in May. When I ask her what she liked best about the trip, she said Seaworld.

Mr. Bildo,

I'm surprised when your son was younger he didn't enjoy the characters. At 7, my son is a very avid autograph collector.

Hopefully, when we go back when he is 9, he will still enjoy the characters.

At age 10, I'm wondering if your son felt he was too old?

Yeah, he was never into the characters. We encouraged it, but he had no interest. He loved the movies, but really was only interested in the rides. The theme was unimportant. Again, this is the first year he's been interested in WDW for the Disney part of it. He actually wanted to go to the Atlantis area at MGM to get his pic with Vinny (sp?). He's pretty mature for his age, so we've always assumed that he felt it was too childish for him or something.

My sister is a weirdo who doesn't like WDW. We went when she was about 12, and she doesn't ever want to go back. She's 23 now, and she says she may go once when she has kids, but that's it.

I think the reason she doesn't like it is that she obsesses over money, even when she has plenty or it isn't hers. She got it fixed in her head that my parents were spending way too much money, and she couldn't have a good time. I'll admit that it is a little more than we usually spend on vacations, but you can't compare a Disney vacation to any other vacation, so I don't compare the cost to other vacations.

Take your kids to a local amusement park. See if they notice a difference between it and WDW. Our kids noticed the differences immediately, especially the cleanliness. Now we are DVC.

I kind of wish my dd didn't like it so much! She is 3 and has been twice. We just got back in May and she is already telling me Dumbo misses her and acting like she is abused b/c she will probably be 5 before we go again.
She just emptied out her piggy bank and told me "Mom! I have the perfect money to go to Disney, lets go to the Airport!"

I'm sure that can be frustrating, but from a casual observer stand-point that's pretty dang cute! :jester:

Melissa, such a cute story!! I have a remedy for you and hope it works, how about taking her to Disney on Ice. This is probably the closest thing for her to see those characters. We did this with our 2 and 4 yr old kids. We saw Disney On Ice 75th anniversary and the Beauty and the Beast. Actually, I was swallowing my tears when I learned how much I missed Disney. Hmmm, well...maybe it's not a good idea after all, I don't know. I hope your daughter won't get emotional like I did when we saw DOI. Anyway....cute story!!

My 3yoDD and 5yoDS LOVE it. We've been twice with them and are going back in December. They talk about it at least a couple times a week. "I want to go back to the pool" "Next time I'm going on Tower of Terror". I'm a disney freak and I hope they continue to love it because it's such a great experience to see their reactions to everything there.

My kids not like Disney World??? BITE YOUR TONGUE!!! :earseek: :earseek:
I would hate to have to get a sitter for them while my DH and I go!!! :p

My 8 year old will be making his 5th trip to WDW next month. Back in 1997 when he was just 4, he had an absolute meltdown when we got off the monorail at the Magic Kingdom. Started screaming at the top of his lungs, "I told you I never wanted to come back to this place!" I calmly advised that he was the only little boy in the world who thought that. He did love the beach at the Polynesian however. My wife and I watched him from California Grill with his grandfather on the beach until well after the sun had set!

Hopefully his younger brother (3) will be more like his dad when it comes to WDW. He keeps talking about going to Dizzy World!:p

This will be our 3rd year in a row going to WDW with the kids . . .DD 12 and DS 8, although they love WDW and staying at the hotels, DD hates flying . . .She actually cringes when we start to plan our vacation . . .Once she gets to WDW she is happy and fine . . . .WDW is a very magical place and we always hate to leave . . . I could never think of going without the kids . . .but when that time comes, I'm sure DH and I will be visiting on a continous yearly basis . . .We are Disney-aholics . . . :D

hi!
We took our 4 year old and 9 year old to Disney. First family to trip tp Disney. Our 9 year old loved it! Our four year old was afraid of the characters. She enjoyed Universal's Islands of Adventures a lot better. :) :smooth:

My almost 6yo DS will be making his third trip to Disney in October. We've taken weekend trips but the Disney trips are the only "real" vacations we've ever taken him on. One day we were discussing vacations and I told him that someday we would go on a vacation that wasn't to Disneyworld. He looked at me with utter confusion and said "Where else is there to go?"
