If so, that does make it fairly likely you will get two connecting. So if you book 2 Poly studios and you want them connecting, that is a request, correct?

DVC has made it pretty clear that if you want connecting studios you need to make a request. That doesn't mean that the room assigner will be able to get you two connecting rooms on the day of your check in.

I'm just lurking here, but that seems pretty ridiculous given the lack of a normal 2BR option. Families/groups of more than 5 might think connecting studios is a decent alternative, only to find the resort is unable to meet their request when they check in.

Maybe it's just me, but I really do not see how it's fairly likely....

Let's say you have four rooms (A B C D). Booking is 4 separate studios for 1/1. On 1/7 two are checking out and a connecting studio is requested. That means the room assigner needs to look beyond 1/1 before assigning rooms. The people checking out on 1/7 would need to be put in AB or CD so that the incoming requested connecting studio is granted. You add in a lot more rooms and a lot more check out dates, and it's one big puzzle!

I think at the beginning, when inventory is high (like this year!) many of the requests will be given. But once it's booking at capacity, the only ones getting a connecting studio request will be the ones lucky enough to check in when another family checking out has a connecting studio or just plain lucky.

If they are smart, they will block off certain rooms for connecting requests. It'll make the chances higher.

In answer to your title question, yes every pvb studio connects to a second studio. In a traditional lodging situation where a hotel/motel has an average occupancy rate of 75-80 % then it generally isn't that difficult to have two connecting rooms available to meet the requests that come in. However, DVC has traditionally a higher occupancy rate. While it would be helpful if the room assigners were able to check an incoming guests exit date and assign them to a room that joins another guest leaving on that same date, that would also help to meet the requests for adjoining rooms. What complicates everything, though is all the other requests for specific room numbers, sections, etc. The CMs do the best they can to make magic happen on our vacations, sometimes I don't think we give them the appreciation they deserve.

Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't.

This is a great question BobbiWoz.. I nearly booked two studios at poly today assuming we'd be connected. One should never assume I see!!

There are 360 studios at the Poly. Is it really going to be that difficult for the room assigner to try to match up check-out dates for any two connecting studios? Honestly, it should be trivial for them to be able to honor 10-15 connecting studio requests on any given day.

I would think it could be very difficult to manage. I also think if you gtd connecting the number of requests would be extremely high.

That's an average of 55 rooms checking out every day. You don't think they could coordinate two of those being next to each other?

No I dont. 55 rooms checking out. Various requests 2nd floor 3rd floor near laundry away from elevator 1 studio for 4 nights add connecting on day 4. Etc.

Part of the problem with DVC reservations is that we vary the number of days in a reservation and we don't check in or out on the same days. It could be that all 360 studios check out on the same day (doubtful IMO) and then you shouldn't have any problems with a connecting studio. But if only 20 check out and spread through the three buildings with 3 floors each that could be two or three per floor in the three buildings and none of them might be connecting.

I talked to the AKV concierge cm one time and he said it's like a jigsaw managing the 5 lockoffs. They have to do advance blocking. So that is what they need to do here. The question is if they want to take the time.
