Do all moderate rooms open to the outside?

We are going to POR next month- our first trip at a moderate.

We are already thinking about going down next December with the inlaws. MIL will ONLY stay at a hotel with rooms that open to an inside corridor. Deluxe is not in my budget and we all want to stay in the same hotel.

Can anyone help me out?

POR, POFQ and CBR all open to the outside. (at least any room I have ever stayed at there). There are many buildings at all of these resorts so you have to walk outside to get anywhere.

I have never stayed at CSR.

All moderates are motel style, meaning they open to the outside, this is not unusual for Florida though, as even a lot of schools down there don't have interior hallways, due to it being warm most of the year. Every moderate I have stayed at has had elevators though, I think the only one that doesn't is POR Riverside, in Alligator Bayou. (I have stayed at POR French Quarter and Coronado Springs)

If she HAS to stay in a interior corridor hotel have you considered Wilderness Lodge? Rates are usually mid-point between a moderate and other deluxes, we have never stayed there for over $200 a night. Plus most people don't realize this but Wilderness Lodge, actually did open as a moderate, it was upgraded to a deluxe after it opened.

Check in to the AKL. Both times we stayed there we paid less than the average rate at a moderate. Beautiful resort !

CBR doesn't have elevators either.

I never thought about this before, but I know my old company looked at having our meeting in WDW once, but we ended up in Newport Beach, CA.

I also know that it was company policy that the TA couldn't reserve a room for female employees that had an exterior cooridor entrance.

Makes me wonder if that wasn't a deciding factor as they would have had to pay for all deluxe rooms??

Or it's because the conference coordinators at WDW are a pain in the rear to work with (so I've been told by my Company's meeting planners who do several WDW meetings each year), they said if it weren't for upper management wanting meetings at WDW, they would switch locations in a heartbeat. (how sad)

What about renting DVC points and staying in a 2BR at a DVC Resort--I'm sure for a little more than you'd pay for a single deluxe you could rent points for a 2BR. Keep in mind at OKW they have outside entrances.

Show her some pictures and explain that these hotels are NOTHING like the typical exterior door hotels/motels. There are gated entrances with security guards- not saying a crazy couldn't get in.

She may be thinking motel 6, but these are a far cry from any strip hotle I've ever seen. As a woman, I have NEVER been uncomfortable at a Disney resort as far as my safety is concerned. If someone wants in, they will get in - interior or exterior.

You could offer her the option of paying the difference for your room between Mod and Deluxe, but I would try showing her some of the great photos on www.allearsnet.com and see if maybe she doesn't come around.

You might want to look at the swan and dolphin too. If your a nurse or gov employee i think they have special rates which may put it in your price range.
Their prices are a better than the other boardwalk area resorts, at least when we've stayed their we've gotten much better rates than the disney deluxes in the area. Just be aware of all the fees they charge.

Someone also mentioned the AKL and Wilderness Lodge. The standard views are among the most affordable of the delux resorts.

In all honesty, I have to agree with the MIL. I don't care if it's a five star, if it's got an outside entrance, it's still a motel, and I'm not comfortable staying there. In all honesty, if she doesn't like "motels", she very likely isn't going to like the decor and amenities at the value, and possibly even the mods.

Maybe MIL will offer to pay the difference between a mod and a deluxe for you. If you have AAA you can get a discount off of the room portion of your visit....

Honestly, I didn't mind the exterior corridors when we stayed at POR. Yes, our room door opened to the outside, but we stayed in Acadian House and it really seemed like a big porch. When we walked out our door over to the railing, a pretty fountain was down below in a courtyard. The landscaping and resort theming is all around you.

Gosh - remembering how much fun we had at POR is making my resort anxiety disorder kick in. YIKES. DH would kill me if I switched us again!
