Yes if you have a membership card you and your household get discounted APs.

Yes, at least for now....this is one of those perks that could go away, although I'm certainly hoping it doesn't!

They always preface the benefit with the disclaimer that it is a decision that occurs annually. We have owned for several years and it has always been available, but it could go away in any given future year (of course, it could then also return any following year, etc.)

Yes, you can get the discount for yourself and family members who live with you.

if you are only going for 8 days in a year does it make sense to get an AP? Am I missing some perk?

I think the break even is about 10 days. But even if you only go once a year, if you can stagger them by a week or so, you can get 2 8 day trips in a single AP window. (have the second yearly trip start a week or so before the one the previous year)

Question about DVC AP's and renewals.

Do renewals work like regular AP's...........they don't take effect until you swipe them through the turnstile?

For example, if we buy DVC AP's (vouchers) in July of this year, (before the price increase) but don't use them first until October 10, 2011, then the 1 yr pass does not begin until October 10, 2011 and go through October 9, 2012.

Then if we renew them next year, does that DVC renewal AP not begin until we "swipe through the turnstile"?

Am I making sense....????

DVC APs work the same as regular APs. For a new AP, they begin the date the voucher or will call number is exchanged for the actual AP. For renewals, they are back dated to the expiration date of the original AP.

With Disney's tiered ticket prices, the answer isn't so simple. But, to try to make it simpler, with the DVC AP prices of $383.40 ($340.80 for an AP renewal), the breakeven depends on the number of trips you are making.

For 1 trip, you would need to visit the park for 11 days with the ParkHopper option, or 12 days without the PH option.

For 2 trips within an AP's year, you would need to visit the park at least 3 days (in total) to hit the breakeven. That is, 1 day on one trip, and 2 days on the next trip, and an AP makes sense. Without the PH option, 5 park days over 2 trips hits the breakeven.

As you can see, the number of trips brings the most value to the AP, more so than the number of park days on a single trip. For 3 or more visits, the AP always makes sense.

A couple of thoughts about the value of the AP that don't show in the calculations. When you have an AP, you get a 10% discount at most Disney stores and gift shops. This could disappear at any time, but it has been in place for a year or so. Also, when you have an AP, the hurdle over which you have to jump to justify a trip to DW is easier. It just makes sense to plan that extra trip when you don't have to add the cost of park tickets. Lastly, with an AP, you don't feel the need to "max it out". When you're paying $100+ per day to be in the parks, you NEED to be there from rope drop until the park closes, and you feel compeled to DRIVE IT HARD to get the most value out of each day. I see people who are working so hard to get everything in that they aren't enjoying themselves. With an AP, it doesn't feel wrong to go the parks for an hour or two, since you didn't pay anything extra for that day. I feel that I enjoy my time more an AP since I dont' feel the need to MAX OUT the value of the daily admissions.

This continues to be a great perk and I hope it continues, even though the perk diminished everytime the AP price went up. I think this perk has been in place at least 5 years. Curious to know the % of AP price increase over that time span.

When tiered benefits happen I bet this is a minimum point stopper.

Right now with owning a 50 point contract you pay dues of say (BLT less AK more) 150$ and you can get 400$ off APs for a family of 4.

I bet they fix that glitch. Maybe 100 points, or even 150. Based on the MF of BLT the cheapest this would prolly set the bar. Or setting it maybe with how many points you own, with a max discount. IE 25 points 25$ off, up to sat 100 or 150$.

Even if I didn't love DVC. I would hold on to a min point contract to buy these when time worked out. Get a free room a few nights a yr with it even. :)

Anyone know the current cost of an adult AP with the DVC discount?

MELSMICE...

The process to get the info (and even buy it!) I've found involves lots of clicks...go to dvc website, click on... member privileges, member perks, WDW resort, "Walt Disney World Annual Pass Savings and More Disney Magic", "Walt Disney World Annual Pass Savings", "Walt Disney World Ticket Store " (under How to Purchase a Pass).... (ridiculous process):

Adult Premium pass=$558.06

Child Premium pass=$514.40

Adult normal pass=$446.24

Child normal pass=$411.09

We are scheduled to close on a DVC resale on February 20th. (We passed Disney on January 30th, I am hoping for an earlier closing but who knows.)

We are going to Disney on March 7th under the free dining promo. My question is can we use our 6-day park tickets towards and Annual Pass with our DVC membership discount? I am hoping we will have our membership cards by then? Can we do this and where? I am hoping this can be done since we planning on using our DVC membership for stay January 2013.
