Do 11 / 12 year olds still enjoy the Lab?

I was looking ahead into the future, and we would love to take a 7 day cruise in 2005 (we have a 4 day booked for 2004 and a 3 day booked for this year).

In 2005, my girls will be turning 12 (we always cruise on their birthday). Will they still enjoy the lab and the kids' activities at that age? Right now, they do really enjoy it, but I am wondering if they will when they turn 12.

Anyone have kids in this age range go on the cruise? Do they like the activities? Do they spend time in the lab?
Thanks,
DJ

My boys were nearly 12 on our New Year's cruise. They both loved the lab! Some of the highlights included when they made a commercial in Studio Sea during the day, making the annimation cell, and anytime my DS got on the computer. The only time one of my sons was upset was when they combined all the lab groups (they usually broke activities up for 8-10 and 10-12) for the NYE party. "All those little kids were wild". LOL out of the mouth of a 12 yo!

On our last cruise my son was 12, nearly 13 and he LOVED the lab. He hooked up with a buddy almost as soon as we set foot onboard and except for the mandatory dinners with family if they were awake they were together!

I have actually read more posts by parents of 13 year olds who were in Common Grounds and felt out of their league with 17 year olds than by people with 12 year olds in Oceaneer's Lab.

That is one reason I want to get in a 7 night cruise before they move up to the teen group. I just not sure about the 'teen group' yet, but we love the lab and feel very comfortable having our kids in there. I suppose at 15, I would be fine with the teen thing, but at 13, I am just not sure, so I would rather do short cruises during the early teen years.

It sounds like when they are 11 turning 12, they will still enjoy the kids Lab though, and that will be in 2005. Now I just have to hope they don't dry dock the Magic over their birthday that year in September.

My kids were the opposite. Our first cruise my 2nd son was 12 and hardly spent any time in the lab. He met kids and hung out on their own. My youngest is now 11 and probably will not spend any time in the lab. It just didn't interest him that much so it's an individual thing. He still loves the cruise and meets friends but just not in the lab.

Our yougest was 10 1/2 on our last cruise and did not like the club. She will be 11 1/2 on our next cruise and has already said she won't be going to the club. Even our older three hardly used the clubs. Three teens did not like common grounds and hardly spent any time their. Our 13 year old meet a friend on the dis boards and spent almost every moment together on the ship. They still email each other and talk on the phone about once a week. We will even be cruising together next March. Have your daughters find a friend on the dis boards and it will make the cruise so much better.
