Does anyone know if you can use the magical express to just take your bags and deliver them to resort? Reason I am asking is we usually rent a vehicle, but I am not sure we can fit all the bags, stroller etc, in a car, and a SUV is expensive. Please let me know if anyone has any info on this. TIA!!!

You mean....You want to put your luggage tags and have disney deliver your luggage? I'm assuming you don't mean put your luggage on the bus and then walk away expecting the bus to deliver it. As far as I know, when you put those yellow tags on your luggage, they get picked up at the airport and taken straight to disney (along with a gazillion other people's bags) and sorted and delivered to each resort. So I would think that yes you could have your luggage delivered without actually taking the DME bus.

However, to be 100% sure I would call MS just to be sure, or at the very least, go to the DME area at the airport and check in....but then explain you are renting a car and you just want the system to show you arriving so that they do deliver your bags.

I have never done it on the way in. But I do know you can do it on the way back.

Just have one person ride DME and you can use the service.

Hi, the short answer is no. The bags are transported by a third party, that pulls the bags before they get to baggage claim, put on a truck and delivered. If you do not ride the bus there is no passenger to match to the luggage and it does not get on the truck and stays at the airport. The return trip is different. In that case you are checking the bags at the resort as if you were at the airport, and there is no requirement to ride the bus.

My apologies, I was merely quoting the official line from Disney, when I called and asked.

True; that's the answer you'll get if you call and ask. But we've learned to never trust those answers. Recognize that the person on the other end of the phone has likely never even been to Florida, let alone Walt Disney World.

According to what I have been told more than once, yellow tag luggage delivery is part of DME. DME is designed to keep you from renting a car and leaving Disney property. By riding the DME bus, you activate the accounting charge that pays for the bus and luggage delivery including the tip for room delivery. Your enticement to ride DME is the luggage handling and delivery.

The reason that DVC DME needs to be ordered through DVC is that DVC is billed for the service and we pay for it with our dues.

My information comes from the DVC executive offices.

Wait a minute... the DME charge includes the tip?

Yes it does, that is why the bell services union agreed to allow your yellow tag luggage to be delivered to your room when you are not there. The "must have an adult in room for deliveries" is so bell services can collect their tip, no other reason. Everything is about money.

Well doesn't it just work out swell for them when you arrive before check-in, finally get a room, call down for your luggage, and tip the double-dipping bums. UGH :headache:

But that shouldn't be happening. The bags shouldn't even be there yet. And from everything I've gleaned it shouldn't be the same employees delivering the bags. That's odd that that's happened for you.

IN the future, just make sure you have everything you need for the first 36 hours in carryon, and let the DME service plunk your bags in your room on their schedule. :)

We had everything we needed from carry-ons. We checked those with bell services before going to the parks that afternoon. But when we came back after dinner the bags still weren't there and we had to call for them. This was at BWV last January. Maybe they hadn't actually assigned us a room until we came back after dinner, but I think the text had it.

Thanks for all the replies. We rent a car not to leave property per say, but unfortunetly Disney transportation has gotten really bad as far as time it takes to get anywhere , and we like doing dinner reservations at other resorts, with the buses that is a logistical nightmare. so we now rent a car and it makes life easier. We usually rent a suv, so not usually a problem fitting bags etc, from the airport , but We are staying at blt , so we don't need the car all the time so I was trying to save a few bucks and get a full size car.

and remember that if you use the yellows tags for DME and don't use the bus don't blame Disney if your bags are lost. If for some reason they (your bags) don't get picked up from the carousel for delivery to your resort then no one knows were they are since you didn't check in at the DME check point. This does happen.

Yellow tagged bags aren't picked up from the carousel. They are picked up from behind the scenes.

Care to share where you've seen the bleak tales of bags lost forever?
