I am trying to decide if we should pick up one bag (with essentials) at the baggage claim and let DME do the rest. How far away is the welcome center from the baggage claim area? Would waiting for one bag slow you down enough to not make it worth it? If they are close to each other, I can see it may be a good idea. Any info is appreciated! :)

That depends on several things. First, no, DME is not on the same level as the baggage claim area. I believe you arrive on level 3, your bags go to level 2, and DME (and towncars/shuttles) are on level 1. Now, there are two sides to MCO...Side A and Side B. DME is located, at the present (it is moving in the near future), on Side A. So, if you are flying on an airline that arrives on Side B, and you want to grab a bag(s) from baggage claim, you'll have to head to level 2, Side B, get your things and then head back up and over to Side A, then down again. At least I believe you have to go back up to level 3....has that changed? If you are arriving on Side A then it's going to be easier to do. But, you aren't going to need 30 mins to do it...more like an addtl 10 mins.

DME is currently located almost directly below SW's baggage claim carousels.
