DME. Should we just get our own luggage?

We use DME a lot, but almost always on a late arriving flight where we have to get our own luggage. Next time we will land at MCO at 6:20 PM. Is it a 4 hour time frame for getting luggage delivery to the room? If so I may get it ourselves as I don't want to stay awake waiting for our suitcases as we have an early morning YES class the next day. WWYD Oh, and do we have to be in the room for delivery?

It is gereally 2-3 hours for delivery and you do not have to be in the room. I'm a little confused though... you say you might be asleep because of your YES class, but if that is the case, wouldn't you be IN the room? I've been dealing with a sick kid for the last 48 hours, so I am lacking in sleep, so sorry if I am missing something obvious here.

No worries. Like I said, it's been a looong two days of no sleep for me. I would let DME get your bags so you can be on the bus and gone to get your tickets. I would say they would be there by 10 at the latest. I think you can also call the front desk if you are ready to go to bed and tell them to hold your bags at bell services and have them delivered in the morning. Have a great trip!

The time frame for DME luggage delivery is 3 hours from resort check in. Resort check in is usually between 70-90 minutes from walking off the plane. So, assuming you walk off the plane at 6:30, you'll be checked into the resort ~8pm. Add 3 hours, and your luggage should be delivered by 11pm.

If it was me, that's only slightly past by normal bed time, so I'd probably still be up and would let DME deliver my luggage.

BUT, make sure you pack all necessities (including clothes to sleep in and for the next day) in your carry on. This has nothing to do with DME, and should be done any time you fly. There's a better chance of the airline losing your luggage than DME.

Agree with the PP's suggestion to have your first night's needs in your carryon. This is important no matter when/where you fly.

As far as luggage delivery goes, just tell bell services not to deliver your bags that night. Put the "Do Not Disturb" sign on your door knob for added assurance. Then call bell services in the morning and have them deliver it then.

If I was to get my own luggage (similiar situation as OP), do we need to let the bus driver or anyone know that we got our luggage and also, what do we do...just take the luggage with us to catch the DME bus? Will they just throw our bags under the bus we're riding??

If you are going to get you own luggage, then you need to leave the yellow DME tags off of your bags and collect them yourself. The driver will stow them away under your bus. We always tip the driver $1 per bag for doing this with our carryons, and if I was having him deal with larger checked luggage, I would likely tip a bit more, but it isn't required.

To me the best part of DME is not having to stop and get our bags at the airport. Why waste time there if you don't have to? Let DME take care of your bags. If you don't want them delivered that night, tell the front desk and put the Privacy Please tag in your door. They will hold your bags until you call down for them.

If you decide to let DME handle your bags the night you arrive, they will deliver them to your room that night without you having to wait for them. So you are free to go swimming, go to the parks, or whatever. They will leave them in the room. If you have them held until the next day then yes, you have to be in the room.

If it were me and you are planning to go to bed early I would take the 15 minutes it takes to collect the luggage and bring it with you.

I am getting in at 5:10 p.m and plan to collect my luggage because I will want to wipe down my room with lysol wipes since the flu season is in high gear. Unpack and get settled in.

You know you can take wet wipes on the airplane, don't you? In fact it is a good idea to do so. Wipe down your tray table and the arm rests. They are very germy. No need to get your checked bags just because you want your lysol wipes.

If I check bags (rarely) and my flight arrives after 4pm (often, as I come from California), I go ahead and grab my bags. Often I have a nice dinner ADR (Victoria and Albert, or Yachtmans) and I don't want to go in my wrinkled sweat pants!

On the other hand, last December 29th, due to major airline delays everywhere, it took well over an hour for our bags to come through the carousel--that carousel had ten different flights' baggage on it in that 1 hour!

The last time we flew into Orlando, there was also a delay in getting our flights' baggage to the carousel. I think we waited about 45 minutes... then of course one bag was missing so we had to go through that mess. We weren't checking into Disney that day, so DME wasn't an option.

I got the pouch of 9 and had enough. I used one to wipe down my tray table and arm rests in the plane. I used about 5 in the room. I didn't worry a ton about things that either get cleaned by mousekeeping or things I wouldn't use. I cleaned these items: door handles (inside and out), all light switches, remote, sink handle and counter, tub handle, and inside of drawers. It was the first time in 3 times flying that I didn't get sick. I think it was because of the extra steps I took with hand sanitizer/hand washing and the clorox wipes.

You're not going to be able to clean every single thing in the room, but it's certainly better than nothing at all.

Given your scenario, I would assume your bags would come between 1030 - 1130, which is still a time I would be awake. You figure if you aren't getting to the hotel to check in until 730 or 8, you won't be leaving to get the YES tickets until 830 or 9, getting back at 930 or 10 at the earliest. I would let them get the bags for me.

And the others - I probably would really freak you out to tell you that I have never ever wiped down anything in my room or airplane, and as a matter of fact, on the plane I put the kids snacks right on the tray and let them have at it? Never been sick on or after a vacation, either

That is why I rarely check my bag! In the December instance, we had just disembarked a Celebrity cruise and we had obviously packed more (and dressier) clothes than usual.

Me either and I am a nurse! I do bring the lysol wipes to clean the bathrooms once a day or so. They do come in large packets ( I think mine have 40 wipes) that would fit easily in a carryon. I am leaning toward having ME deliver my bags. We are going to try and catch Wishes from TOTWL so will most definitely be awake. Probably not even back in the room.
