My husband and I have a room/package booked at AKL; our DFriend is joining us (flying on same flight) as a "room only" guest as they have an AP (and we will be paying the extra "adult in room" fee per night for our friend).
I know we can't register our friend to our room until we all arrive; however, how does our friend utilize ME? When called ME told us they couldn't until they were a registered guest . . .yet we can't register them until we get to AKL.:confused3
Anyone know how we can get our friend on ME?

You cannot get them onto DME since they are flying in at the same time. It only works if you get there first, add them, and then arrange DME really quickly.

Mears transportation (that runs DME) as a one way paying customer. The Mears desk is on the ground floor of the terminal. You can go down together and buy her a ticket. She will be assigned a vehicle that will get her to your resort.

I know you can't add dining within the last couple of days before the start of the reservation- wouldn't the same hold true for the whole package (but they could still be added onto the room)?

I guess it just doesn't make sense to me why you can't add someone to your room as room-only guest before arrival and therefore be able to book ME. I don't think it would be like we're cheating (for lack of better word) the system or anything because we intend to pay the additional room fee.

Its a few issues. One everyone in your room is suppose to be on the same package/plan so to speak. So you can't mix those on meal plan with those not etc. Adding a person after arrival is a loophole, so to speak, that disney hasn't closed and may have not intention of closing.
In order to ride ME , you have to be a registered guest. He won't be until you register him at the resort.
Its a system that works for 99% of the guests, so I don't see Disney changing it.

They let us add people once we are at the resort, without making us have them be part of the package. This is a kindness that Disney does. It's not cheating, but it is an exception to adding people to a package. Therefore, there are rules to follow.

Thanks for posting folks-we'll figure something out. :) We know he has Mears as an alternative

Mears is about $19. You can have your friend go to the Mears counter, just before the DME area, and buy a seat. In all probability, they will be put on the DME bus you are on. So, let them checkin and see what happens. Then, once they get the info as to what bus, you can all go to your resort bus together. At least that's how it's worked in the past.
