We are arriving on a Friday night at about 8 p.m. Do you know how long it will take for our luggage to arrive to our rooms. Is it better to just pick up our luggage ourselves then get on the bus or let them bring it. Thanks for your input. Michelle

could take up to 3 hours from check in. So, you may not get them until midnight or so..... personally, I use the luggage service and if it gets too late, I call bell services and ask them to hold the bags until the morning...... the luggage service is one of the best parts of DME.

Agreed.

It's best (read: most convenient, least stressful, most efficient) to have whatever you'll need for the first 24 hours at your/any destination in your carry-on luggage, and to allow - in this case - Magical Express to deliver your checked luggage to your room.

We love using DME. It makes us feel like we are truly away on vacation - no need to pack up a car, carry luggage around etc. Remember that if you decide to take your own luggage you will have to go and claim it, and then proceed to the DME area - which could add a considerable amount of time.

I always make sure to pack a change of clothes in my carry-on, and any other necessities so that if my luggage takes a while it won't be a big deal. I know with the new restrictions this might be a little more difficult. We've never had any problems with our luggage taking too long to arrive in our room (but we usually arrive mid morning).

I am wondering if your wait might be even shorter since you are arriving near the DME cutoff time?

Good luck.

We arrived just before 10pm last June. Our luggage arrived around 12:15am.

Arriving at that time should put you at your resort 60-90 minutes after landing. You would check in at that point and they say to expect your luggage within 4 hours. So probably midnight to 1:00 am for delivery. Could be earlier. As as PP suggested, have everything you need for your first night in a carry on and then either let them deliver your bags when they show up or wait til the morning to have them delivered.

Of course you could also claim your bags and take them on the DME bus also. Will just take some time to get the bags and there are also tips expected

Question, tips expected from who? I'm asking because after much thought I have determined that I will need to get my bags. This is my first time taking DME (usually used car services but need to budget this trip). Since I cam coming from CA and I land at 8:50pm, if my bag shows up between midnight and 1am, I would then have to unpack before I go to bed then get up early so I can make rope drop at MK the next day. I can't pack essentials in my carry on because I need my make-up and accessories and now I can't carry those on the plane.

So my question is if I go and get my own bag, take it to the bus, take it from the bus to my room - who do I have to tip? Am I missing something?

Thanks!

Well, from you - but I don't think that's actually the question you meant to ask; or at least not the way you meant to phrase it?

Anyone who handles your luggage - if a porter helps to get from the baggage carousel to the DME area, he/she gets tipped; if for any reason you use Bell Services, they get tipped; the bus driver who stows your luggage under the bus and pulls it at your resort absolutely gets tipped.

On the other hand, when Magical Express claims and delivers your luggage, Disney takes care of the tip to Bell Services/Luggage Assistance. It's the only instance where you don't need to be in your room to get your luggage delivered (if you didn't drag it around yourself from the airport to the bus to the resort to the room...)

Thanks for all the replies. I am just going to let them take the bags. I figure by time we get to the resort, check in and go and feed the kids our bags should arrive shortly after that. Michelle
