DME & MBs

We have booked DME, got our luggage tags and a booklet which lists DME as having been booked for both of us both ways (to and from airport). In previous years, we always got scannable tickets, even the last time (Dec 2013) because Canadians don't get MBs until we get to the hotel. This time, in the booklet, there are no tickets to scan and it just says that you need to keep the booklet in order to use DME. My question: we still have our MBs from last trip and, assuming that the battery is still good, I'm wondering if we would be able to use those to scan rather than digging out the booklet when we get to MCO. Has anyone had experience doing this?

Yes. You just need to bring one of your magic bands for the whole family. We do it all the time. :)

Cool. I customized my new MB in a different colour so that I'd be able to accessorize with two different colours. :-)

You can only have one MB active at a time, so you need to go into the app and tell Disney which one you are going to wear today. Also there is a scannable code inside the booklet so you don't need a MB to get on DME, it's just not on a removable ticket.

No. This is not true. You can use your magic bands interchangeably as long as they are active in your account. We have several active at the moment. Your magicbands just read MDE.

It is true that you can use the scannable code in your booklet instead of a magic and for ME. I just find it easier to have a magicband on my wrist, so I don't have to take out the booklet.

As Disneylover pointed out, the information about MBs given here is incorrect. But the booklet does have a scannable code for all those guests who do not yet have their MBs.

Having had frequent problems with MB glitches, I'd recommend you bring that booklet with you, perhaps in a handy outside pocket of your carry-on, just in case.

Just last week, I used an almost 2 year old MB to ride DME. It worked fine. The consensus about MBs are that there are in fact two kinds of functionality built into them. The part that allows for DME, park admission, room door access, purchases, fast passes and everywhere else you "touch Mickey" to do something is passive RFID, like in credit/ debit cards and needs no battery to work, so in theory could work for a very long time. The other function is the longer range functionality that Disney uses to keep track of guest movement through the parks so they can manage then more efficiently. This needs a functioning battery to work. So for those of us who like the basic use of the MBs but are a little uneasy about Disney "tracking" us an old MB with a dead battery might be just what we need.

Just as a heads up, if you have numerous old MBs and associated cards with them, you may want to go in to MDE and inactivate the cards. I had numerous MBs in different colours and would mix and match with outfits but this trip it didn't work for me one one day as I had too many things linked. I was eventually able to get into the park but it did cause our group about a 15 min delay as they fixed the problem. Once old cards were deactivated all was well.
