DME Luggage Cutoff question

Hi all!

Hoping someone knows - or has some anecdotal experience with this. For the 10PM cutoff, is it:

Scheduled to land by 10PM
Wheels down by 10PM
-or-
At gate by 10PM?

I ask because we're scheduled to land at 9:55. Last time we took this flight, we had a delay; Southwest made up most of the time but we were wheels down @ 9:55 and at the gate at 9:59. The lady at the DME podium seemed annoyed when we verified that our luggage would be collected - but since it was so close I figured it was reasonable to verify.

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks!

The workers get off work at 10:00. If your bag isn't there when they leave for the day they won't get it till the next day, where they go to the various unclaimed luggage areas and retrieve all the bags from the prior night. If it is, they will
I wouldn't risk it personally. I trust Bags, Inc completely but I don't trust bags laying around the airport all night waiting for them to come back the next morning. Too easy for them to find legs during all those hours

Even if they did get picked up they would not get delivered to your room until around 2-3 in the morning

I personally doubt that they are off right at 10 because in that case they would have to state landing at 9:30 or so. It takes time to get bags unloaded to get to wherever dme people are.

I might experiment with tagging one bag, just for info's sake, but get the rest. (The part that wants to experiment is the part that wants to get a job with them so that I know how they work exactly lol)

Maybe the better way to word it is they no longer go out to gather bags starting at 10:00, they only work with bags already in their storage area.
Either way, your experiment idea is not half bad. We land at 9:50 in a couple of weeks. I'm half tempted to test it myself. Though we are trying to stay with carry on only since we depart from Universal and won't have RAC

If you do go to the carousels for your flight arriving at approximately 10PM and don't find your bags there then file a baggage claim with your airline before leaving the area.

When you do this, do not say anything about Magical Express.

If you're going to go to the carousel anyway, you might as well not tag the bags and just collect them yourself.

Last time, when my flight hit the gate at 9:59, they got my luggage. The resort did opt to hold it until morning (which was fine by us.) So clearly somebody's grabbing bags right up until 10!

One of the great perks of the way-overpriced Disney hotel rooms is that I don't have to deal with my own bags. As long as the flight is on time/slightly early, I have zero concerns. It's only in the event that there's a delay that I am wonder how the time is "counted." Sounds like no one's quite sure!

I always pack PJs and clothes for the following day in my carry on, so as long as the bags show up eventually I'm good...

Thanks for the report.

What would be the point of this?

If you're going to go to the carousel anyway, you might as well not tag the bags and just collect them yourself.
But if the plane does land before 10 PM then you want the yellow tags on the bags so you do not have to go to the carousel.

The point of "this" (in previous reply) is that in the event the bag is lost Magical Express and the airline cannot point fingers at each other without asking questions first. If applicable you would also file a claim at your resort within 4 hours of when you determine that the bag was not delivered (upon the inability of the bellhop to deliver it after dawn when, the previous evening, you asked the front desk to hold it until morning).

That sounds like a huge headache. I'd just grab the bags myself and be done with it than go through all of that, especially if I was going to check the carousel anyway.

I don't understand either.
are you saying, put the yellow tags on your bag but go to baggage claim and wait to see if they don't show up?
or are you saying
Put the yellow tags on the bags. If you land before 10:00, go on to ME. If you land after 10:00, go to baggage claim?

If you want your stuff upon check in then you would not use the yellow tags and you would go to the carousels in any event. You will still need to file a baggage claim if the bags do not appear.

If you are expecting to arrive before 10 PM and you want DME baggage delivry then you would use the yellow tags and normally you would skip the carousels. But if you actually arrive after 10 PM then you must go to the carousels.

When you ride DME and use the DME baggage delivery before 10 PM it behaves like a connecting flight. Any baggage claims would be filed at your final destination which is your resort. After 10 PM your final destination relative to your airline is MCO and DME behaves like a separately ticketed itinerary.

Luckily, now that some airlines (AA and Delta at least) track your bags right on their app it's rather easy to see where they make it to. And you can go one step further and put a tracker on the bags and remove any doubt as to where they are

Hopefully my flight is on time! But if not... I will have yellow-tagged my bags and I will report back for a data point. Thanks!
