DME Lines on 8/26 REPORT

People posting in this thread have been on lines as long as the OP observed. They said the line took about 5 minutes. The fact that the OP thought it was more than a 30 minute line doesn't really mean much unless he either asked people who were on line or waited to observe.

The observation of guests who actually used DME is each guest is cleared very quickly and generally every member of the party is in line even though only one guest has to check in. A car rental line goes much slower than DME. The rental agency representative has to check your drivers license and spend a fair amount of time explaining the benefiits of all the add ons. DME asks how many bags you checked, confirms your departing flight information and scans your voucher. Probably about a minute.

The reason I thought the OP was worthless is most of us don't care about the physical lenght of the line but rather how long it takes to go through the line. The OP had no real information in the OP regarding how long guests had to wait.

My post may have been harsh, I don't think the OP was intentionally giving us bad information. I think they may have tried to relate the length, and time taken, at the rental line in trying to determine how long the DME line would take.

Exactly. That's what people do. They observe, they make a judgement, they post it and report it.

Following your line of reasoning, half the threads on this board are worthless.

By the way, the poster who used that word merely read a post and made a jugement.
He'she should have said the post was worthless "to me." Don't make a judgement for us all.

(Actually, you can do/post anything you want. I'm usually strong enough to bypass the silliness of some of these flaming back-and-forths. Geez I've fallen into the petty junior high school zone.)

By the way, the OP wasn't making a comparison. It was a report on DME lines on a specific date at a specific time. Who wants to be a lawyer?? Me!!!! :rotfl2:

Yes. And here's another thread this week with real experiences rather than a mistaken guess: DME Airport Wait Times

Just to keep the thread going :teeth:

After picking up our luggage my family waited by the southwest BC so that i could go pick up the rental at Alamo. The Alamo counter is a brisk walk from the DME counter. The couple that was on our flight got in the long line i observed. They did not walk or ride in the same transport between the gate and baggage claim. I assume they took a potty break and maybe picked up a bite to eat. Who knows. I saw alot of people that were not in line that were also waiting around for their family members to get through the DME line.

So i go back to where my family is and i get someone to help me with the luggage as i head towards the rental parking garage area. I place my first set of luggage down and have my BIL wait by the luggage. I made two extra trips. Last trip i got the rest of my family and we started towards the parking garage. The same couple was still in line.

Bottom line is that it was extra busy it appears on 8/26/06. I'm glad this appears to be a rarity in DME lines, however the fact remains that the wait time was longer than normal.

Rental cars are the way for us so i may never get to experience the whole DME thing myself. Who knows?! Anyway, i'm glad i could contribute some entertainment to the board.

Thanks for posting this.

Just because 99.9% of DME users may have reported that long lines didn't mean long wait times, it's possible that yes indeed it may take longer sometimes, even much longer.

The fact that the OP thought it was more than a 30 minute line doesn't really mean much unless he either asked people who were on line or waited to observe.
And OUR observations, judgements are the truly worthless ones, because we weren't there at all. The OP just reported what he/she saw with her own eyes, and made a judgement on it.

I hate it that I'm obsessed with making my point here, but some people may not know how ridiculous they appear, taking simple posts and analyzing, quantifying.

Give us readers some credit that when we read a post like the OP's, we know we have hundreds of other DME posts and experiences to compare it to, to make our own decisions about whether we're going to use DME or not.

I promise to stop, I swear!

I think the OP took my post in the way it was intended, I don't why you're obsessed.

The OP had no basis to assume a "conservative" wait of 30 minutes based on the length of the line, based on what was written in the OP.

It's not fair or accurate to assume a long line means a long wait.

The question isn't how long the line is but rather how long the wait is and the original post suggested a wait of more than 30 minutes without giving us any idea of where that number came from.

:rotfl2: I don't either! I guess it's just that I didn't want the OP or others to think they shouldn't post their reports because people may say their report is worthless. We can all make up our own minds what's valuable or worthless.

I'm over it now. ;)

Understood.

Queuing techniques and the psychological impact it has on customers is a science all into itself. There is no one answer really. It really depends on the type of service being rendered as to what type of queue serves most effectively. A person can be quite surprised by how fast a long line moves, or how slow a short line moves.

I find it all very interesting. Both the perceptions and the reality.

We all realize that the free dining offered by Disney has boosted the numbers in the parks...I would imagine this has had a huge impact on DME also. From what I understand, and it is only an observation from reading here since I tend to arrive late morning, that the DME area does get 'busy' from mid-afternoon on until mid-evening. So, it would be safe to assume (knowing what happens when one assumes!!) that if you are arriving at MCO, on a Sat, at about 4:00, you are going to be with a ton of other people waiting to board a bus!
The one thing I have noticed while waiting in that line is that no matter how many times the CM tells families that only ONE person in the group has to wait in the line, entire families go together! So, if you have say, 20 'groups' that have reservations, then only 20 people should be in that line. However, it is usually more like 80-90, when you count everyone in the family standing together. I have never seen a lot of people, standing with their luggage, outside that stupid line. They are all in the line, with the whole darn family, with all their luggage, or at least their carryon stuff.

So, lets play nicely...everyone is entitled to an 'opinion' here. If you think that someone has posted something you may think is incorrect, you all know the 'nice' way to get your point across.

And Edd...thanks for becoming a lifetime sponsor!!! Cool beans!!

I had to put those Gator colors up in front of everyone, I didn't care what it costs, cause we going to kick some, you know what, this year.

Beautiful Blue and Orange isn't it.
