SO, this is my first time actually staying on Disney property so I am truly trying to take advantage as to what is offered. I've skimmed through some others threads and I dont know if it's made me excited or nervous!

We are flying out 530am and landing @ MCO for 9am. Is it wise to let DME handle my bags that early in the AM? My initial plan is to let them handle my bags, go to a park and check in later around 3pm (assuming my room isnt ready so early.)

I saw, however, that if a bag was missing i only had a few hours to report it. At this rate, I wouldnt be getting back to POR until mid evening.

Suggestions? Should I trust DME or do I just handle my bags myself? MCO can be spotty when it comes to Southwest.

You can check in as soon as you get to your resort. Why don't you think you should let Disney handle your luggage just because it's early?

It's totally up to you. I like to deal with my bags myself, just so I know where they are at all times. That's just me though. Some people think its a hassle, but I've always found MCO to be a pretty organized airport (I've been to many all over the world) and waiting for my bags and getting them to the Magical Express area are never a problem for me.

Since you're taking DME to your resort, even if your room isn't ready you can always leave your bags with baggage service and claim them when you get back.

Although airlines want you to report it quickly, they don't turn you down if you don't. Plenty of people take the wrong bag at airports and don't realize it until later, but it gets worked out.

This isn't something I'd worry about.

Again, I have never used the DME before so I am not 100% sure on how it works. Sure, I get the concept - just a little worried about receiving bags OR rather, not receiving bags and having enough time to try to track them down, God forbid. I know it also may sound silly, but DW and I are only down there for a limited time so I was hoping to have DME just handle my bags so we can get to the park sooner rather than later.

I flew in early one morning and they handled my luggage quite well.
Thank you, i wasnt sure how the earlier flights were handled with the check in's tending to be later in the day like a standard resort/hotel.

Would any one have any suggestions or tips when using DME aside from having your magic bands at reach?

I would recommend that you relax. We have used ME luggage delivery a dozen or more times and it has always been great. We take the bus to our resort, usually early AM like you . We check in (you can check in as early as 7 AM. Your room likely not ready yet, but you can check in) leave your carry ons with Bell Services and head straight to a park. When you return you can go straight to your room - no need to go back to the desk. If it is more than 3 hours since you checked in, it is likely that your DME bags will be waiting for you in your room. You can either stop by Bell Services and get your carry ons or you can call and have them brought to your room once you are there. Don't forget to tip the delivery person :-)
It works like a charm
Have Fun

thank you for the insight - greatly appreciated!!! hey - absolute worst case, if something DOES happen to my bags, I will just wear all new Disney/Mickey shirts, rock my magic bands, and have some great food!

thanks again everyone!

Having DME handle bags is the biggest perk of DME in our opinion. Totally off sets the delays in getting to the resort (as in, waiting for a bus to depart and/or stopping at multiple resorts on property).
I've never been concerned about them mishandling a bag and wouldn't let that impact my choice to use the bag service with DME
Have a great trip

I was nervous the first time we let DME handle our bags. Everything was perfect....we even had our bags arrive at our room about 20 minutes after we did. Since then we have used it many times and will continue to do so.

If you opt to get the bags yourself at MCO it could take 30-45 minutes for the bags to start appearing on the belt at baggage claim. You then have to haul them to the bus and wait a bit more. You could lose 60-90 minutes or more.
