We went to Disney last January and the worst part of the trip was the check in lines at the Orlando Airport for DME. I have recently read on some threads that the check in procedures have changed. Do you still need to check-in or is it true that you proceed right to the buses now? Has anyone gone through the process lately? Has it improved???

You still head to the same spot but there will be a CM at the beginning of the line and if you have your vouchers she will then direct you to the podium up ahead where they will look at the vouchers, circle something, and put you in the bus line.

Hope that helps.

Keep your vouchers out when you get to the DME lines. You will be scanned, and directed to a line. Your voucher will be scanned again when you get on the bus. We had zero wait last week for All Star Sports.

Thanks but I am still a bit confused. One poster said that they waited in the huge line (heading to the check in counter) only to find they didn't need to be there. Is there someone directing you to which line? With vouchers, can you go directly to the bus loading area. Thanks for the help!

Those pictures were taken of the area about 6pm and you can see it was almost empty. The first girl directed us to the podium, ( we had the booklets out ) the girl there asked us which resort we were going to and told us lane B. Then there were signs for the resorts and we walked down toward the doors. We were the first ones in line with only one other couple behind us. We wanted two or three minutes and a person walked over and told us which bus to get on and we walked out to the bus. We did sit on the bus about 15 minutes and the bus did fill up. This was our second time using DME and both times it was about the same.

When we went this past June there was absolutely no wait at all nor did we have to do to the DME counter. The only people that had to go to the DME counter were those that had a problem or travel issue. If you had your DME travel papers (with the scannable barcode) then you went straight to the line and/or busses and the papers were scanned along the way. In our case we walked straight onto the bus with NO waiting. They even sent the bus off with only about 15 people on in. It was not full. The whole process was smooth and painless.

There is absolutely no way to tell, now, if you will have to wait in the line or if you will be directed to the bus. When you get to that area, you can judge for yourself. You can leave someone in the line, to save your spot, and you can go to the CM at the entry point (where the line actually is inside the roping que) and ask if you need to be in line or can you go right to the bus line. Keep your vouchers with you though.
I have to say that only one time have I found the checkin line to be really long....and that was the Sat that a ton of PopWarner families were arriving last year. The line was hugely long...but it only took about 20 mins to get through it.
I did have a wait of 20 mins in the bus line on Nov 29th though...got there about 5pm, no one in the checkin line, we were directed right to the bus line, and were the first in line. But.....our bus took forever coming. The CM told us the bus would be there in about 5 mins, when we walked up. But, 10 mins later, she came over and apologized for the long wait, telling us the bus was on it's way. Many others got on their buses...it was just the luck of the draw.
