DME & Carry-On Luggage

I read in a previous thread (can't find it now) that someone stated they were not allowed to bring their carry-on luggage with them onto the bus (this included his camera gear). The more I have thought about this, the more I have grown concerned. I will have a laptop bag and a camera bag. Between the two of them they are not much bigger than some women's purses.

What is the experience of those who have traveled on DME regarding these kinds of carry-on luggage?

I'll gladly give the driver a couple of bucks to not touch these bags and to let me take them on the bus with me. But I will take a cab before I let him put these bags under the bus. I'm hoping it won't come to this, and am hoping that others can tell me that I have nothing to worry about.

When I traveled with my party of three, we had carry ons and camera bag. The bus was full and we had no problems at all. The overhead bins aren't so big but still no issues.

Perhaps the carry-on in question was too large to fit either on the overhead shelf or under the passenger's seat. This is the rule for taking carry-on luggage into the bus with you. It can't take up a seat, and it can't sit on your lap -- either way it becomes a potentially dangerous missile in a sudden stop or crash.

i'm assuming too that the bag in question must have been a large one. i didn't want to put my bag on the bus either but would have it asked. my mom walked towards the bus with the intent on putting it under the bus and the driver stopped us and told us that we could take them on.
