We are thinking about leaving after work on May 26, 2017 on an evening flight. It would put us in Orlando around 10pm-ish. What are the hours of DME as we are not renting a car and I really don't want to pay for transfers to the resort? If you are arriving late is there any information I should know about my baggage?

If you are going to arrive after 10:00 pm you will need to pick up your luggage at baggage claim and bring it with you to the Magical Express bus. If you are arriving before 10:00 pm you can bypass baggage claim and your luggage will be delivered to your room about 3 hours after you arrive. We arrived around 9-9:30 pm one night and let them deliver our luggage but it didn't get to our room until after midnight, needless to say we were woken up when they knocked on the door. I personally would suggest that you pick up your own luggage if you are going to arrive anytime after 8 pm and bring it with you onto the Magical Express bus to avoid being delivered to late. Just remember that if you decide to pick up your bags yourself, do not put the Magical Express tags on the luggage.

Thank you everyone. That is what I thought, but it has been a while since we have been to the parks. I always liked not having to pick up our luggage, but I also don't want to be woke up at midnight either if our flight happens to get in before 10.

Luggage delivery is 3 hours after checkin NOT 3 hours after arrival.
After 10 PM collect the bags and take them to the bus.

If you pick a flight that lands before 10 and you don't want them to wake you to deliver your bags all you have to do is tell them to hold them. Then you simply call down when you want your bags delivered.

What would happen to our luggage if we didn't pick them up ourselves and left the yellow tag on them and we arrived after 10:00 p.m.? Would our luggage be safe and arrive the next day?

This is not recommended.

In all likelihood, it would go out to the public carousel, keep going around and around until someone from the airline came to get it. It would then go to the unclaimed luggage area, and be picked up by a DME person some time the next morning.

And who knows WHEN that could be.

Seriously, just spend an extra 20 minutes and wait for your bags.

Not to be a smartypants, but I'm guessing you are not in the habit of leaving your stuff unattended? Once DME stops grabbing bags, no one will grab them before they are out on the public carousel. Not really something you want to do--leave your bags going round and around so that who knows who can grab them.

I had no idea it went out to the public carousel. I thought it went to a specific area for DME. I would definitely not do this in this case. I just thought if we got to the airport early enough to see if we could catch an earlier flight, we would, but we wouldn't be able to confirm that until after we checked our bags. When we fly, we always get straight to the carousel so that no one steals our luggage. We've heard too many horror stories of that happening. So we will not chance it.

Yes, the people responsible for pulling bags stop working at 10 p.m., which is why there is no luggage service available after that. There's no one behind the scenes the pull the bags before they hit the carousel.

I just assumed they pulled them and held them until morning. Good to know. We almost always not use the yellow tags and grab our bags anyway so that we have them with us when we arrive.

Nope! Once 10pm comes, I'm assuming that those DME workers beat feet out of there!!! So, all there are left are the regular baggage handlers. They don't care if there are yellow tags on a bag...those bags all go out to public baggage claim, and when no one claims those tagged bags, each airline sends a worker to take them to the specific airline's unclaimed baggage area. Then, in the morning, a DME worker goes to each airline unclaimed baggage area and takes the bags.

If I'm arriving after 7pm, I'm not tagging my bags. Of course, since I usually fly JB, that means arriving on level 3 of Side A at MCO, then going down to level 2 to collect my bags, then back to level 3, Side A. Cross through the terminal, and to Side B, then down to level 1 to get to DME area. A big pain but it is what it is. I prefer to have my bags with me vs waiting until close to midnight to have them delivered to my room.
