DME and Magic Bands

Does anyone know if you have to have your Magic Band now to use the DME? Reading on line last night it appears as if you do.

My best friend is leaving from another state and using the DME when she gets to Orlando (we are driving). Her Magic band was sent to us, with the rest of our bands. We were not going to risk mailing her band but just planned to meet her at the resort when she got there.

There is still enough time to send the band (and I still need to send the luggage stickers and things we received from DME) before we leave, but if she doesn't need it, we'd rather not take chances of the package getting lost in the mail.

No you do not. The magic bands are only mailed to US addresses at the moment and all international travellers get their's sent to the hotel. And yet, all travellers can use DME. A MB might make checkin at DME a bit quicker but all you need is a reservation and your confirmation.

Us foreigners still get "tickets" to the DME mailed to us that we show at the DME Gate in Orlando.

You should call the DME support desk and have them add her name to the Will Call list -- she can then go to a window and they will give her her "ticket". (we had to do the same last year for BIL who decided to join us a week before we left ---

Us Americans still get the vouchers, too.

You don't even have to call the desk ahead of time. As long as you are on a Disney reservation, the DME people in the airport will hook you up. You just stop there for your voucher.

Thanks everyone. I will be sending her luggage tags and the vouchers from DME but I really didn't want to have to send the Magic Band too.
