We have plans on being at DLR from Mon the 5th-Thurs 8th. We're contemplating adding an extra day to our trip and are thinking of going on Superbowl. I'm wondering if the parks are any less crowded b/c everyone is home watching the game? A girl can hope, right? :goodvibes

Most people that have been that weekend in the last few years say that it is not bad at all crowdwise!!! A friend of mine likes to go every year that weekend just for that reason!

Good to hear because that is what we are hoping for too!:thumbsup2

I've heard that ESPN Zone at DTD might be pretty crazy but that the parks should be okay. But I'm playing it safe and going Feb. 5-10 anyway. :thumbsup2

I heard it's crowded I have never been though. I think last year it was horrible. Maybe you'll luck out this year!

We went last year purposefully that day because we heard it was usually dead. It was REALLY busy, sorry to say...

I'm beginning to think there are no more quiet days at Disneyland. But, we were there a few weeks ago just after New Years Day. Despite the fact that DL was supposedly selling out, we did just fine. We started early, used fastpasses and never waited more than a half hour for any ride (most waits were under 10 minutes).

Yeah and you know when I gave that advice above about it not being busy, that was pre 2005 when there was still such a thing as a non-busy day!!! But I have a friend that swears by superbowl weekend every year!!

Hmmm so it could be either way, huh? :confused3 I'll just go and assume it's going to be crowded and hope for the best then. :)

This year it happens to fall the same weekend as the "Disney's World of Martial Arts Festival" at the DL hotel. The festival is Saturday, but I would expect there to be a lot of people at DL on Sunday that participated in the Martial Arts Festival. I know this is the 2nd year that Disneyland has hosted this large event, so that might be why there were a lot of people there last year. There are only 2 families from our particular martial arts school in No. CA that are competing, but I've talked to someone who has 45 students and their families flying out from FL to attend. One of the events on Sat. is a Tiger Claw Elite qualifier for a bigger competition in Oct. that is held at Disneyworld.

This can't add too many more people to the parks at any given time can it? Maybe by 1000 at the most?

I'm arriving Sunday night for 4 days as well. Hoping to do POTC and then the Railroad and Tom Sawyer Island before they're closed for the rest of our visit.

When there is at least one west coast team (particularly a SCAL team) then I think DL wouldn't be as crowded. However, given that there are two midwest teams going in, I'm guessing that SB Sunday might be more crowded.

It'll be interesting to see if I'm right. :goodvibes

I don't want to get into trouble by posting a link to the website with info on the event (since there is a travel agency involved in booking hotels and DL tickets). If you look up disneyland martial arts festival on the internet, it will give you an idea on how large an event this is. This is our first year going, so I can't say for sure. I know the DL tickets they are selling are good for 2 days prior to the event and 14 days after. Also, each competitor gets a twilight ticket included with their competitor fee, which means that if the competitor is a child and they want to use their DL ticket, at least one adult would be purchasing an admission ticket.

Either way, no matter how many extra people it adds I wouldn't think it would be as bad as a summer crowd. I would just expect the normal crowds, instead of potentially lower SB Sunday crowds.

One potential slow down that I would expect would be longer lines at the security check points (where they go through your bags). The competition is at the DL hotel, and many competitors will have their martial arts weapons with them for the competition. DL security is aware of this, and is requesting that competitors be dropped off directly at the DL hotel instead of trying to walk thru DTD from the hotels on Harbor (where many people are staying). I asked directly, this is why I know. It is not like the event coordinators are sending everyone a note telling them this, so there will likely be many people trying to go through security Sat. morning (and throughout the day for that matter). :headache:
