DLR in the rain.

Well, when I checked accuweather yesterday afternoon it was saying rain friday through monday. But it seems they have updated since I last checked it. This definitely gives me hope that it will not be raining the entire time.

I checked accuweather just minutes before we left for our hour long drive to go to DLR in december and it said there would only be rain from about 12-1. We arrived around 8am and the rain didn't stop the whole time we were there. Don't give up hope but don't put too much stock in what the forecast says either.

Some surfaces get VERY slippery in the rain, so be careful. A lady in front of us slipped and fell in the downhill area of the queue for Space Mountain. :( (She got right up, helped by her family; she appeared to be more embarrassed than hurt.) Outside of some rides, we were told to shake out our umbrellas before walking inside--again, things got quite slippery indoors. Shoes with traction are good.

That's a good point. DS also slipped when we were there on that rainy saturday. We were in the store at the exit of IASW and the floor in there was really slippery. DS was wearing shoes with good traction but he still slipped a couple of times and DH and I had to walk very slow and carefully not to slip too. I'm surprise they even had that store open because of how slippery it was. There was a CM trying to keep the floor dry but it was an impossible task.

I'll be there the 20-23. Weather.com is showing a 60% chance of rain. Since it's still a week out, I won't believe the forecast until a day or two before when I have to pack. I've been in Disneyland in the rain before and had a blast.

I did go to DLR in Dec for a few days. I had a wonderful time, and while I did take pics, it was not nearly enough detail for a pic intensive trip report. It is very difficult to take pictures and push my mother in a wheel chair at the same time. Nevertheless, I was planning on coming back and posting the pics I did take, but as soon as I got back into town, I became deathly ill, and by the time I was well again and had time to sit down to work on it, I had already forgotten most of the specific details of my trip.

On my upcoming trip it will just be me and my best friend since 6th grade so I should be able to get more pics this time and come back with an awesome TR. I promise!

Thanks again everyone!

OMG, so sorry to hear that you were deathly ill. Did you get the flu or something?
I hear you on forgetting the details, I do that all the time. That's why my TR is more photos than details!:lmao:
I can't wait to see your photos and read your TR -- you're so good at it.

Jumping in to piggyback this thread...I'm going around the same time and planning for fun in the rain...

However, I'm having SO MUCH TROUBLE deciding what to pack. We live in Colorado, where it's snowy and cold. I can't decide if 50 and rain would be JEANS and jacket weather, or capri pants and sweatshirt weather...??? I don't think it's SHORTS weather...

Going to figure something out about ponchos, but can't decide what shoes to pack for everyone. Don't want soggy wet tennis shoes and socks. Maybe I could find something waterproof...but rain boots would not be good for blisters, etc.? Any ideas?

Somebody help me decide what to pack! I'm lost and confused! :rotfl:

Something I noticed w/ CA vs AZ is dryness. We got wet (in Jan) on water rides...NEVER dried OUT!!! So....pack to keep your clothing dry or at least bring changes & stuff that can dry quickly. Jeans do not dry out. 50 is cold to me, but I'm from AZ anything under 70 is cold to me. ;)

Bring things you can LAYER. Tee...fleece...rain jacket/coat - stuff you can easily remove & stash if you get warm. What about Crocs w/o holes??

Being from the same type of climate you are I would say it is jeans and light jacket/sweatshirt weather. Wear a short sleeve or long sleeve t-shirt underneath so you can take off the outer layer if it gets warm enough. I would also bring backup capris in case the weather changes for the better.

I am at a loss for the shoes as well. I am leaning more toward sneakers with everyone bringing a backup pair and double the amount of socks we would normally bring. Finding something waterproof makes me leary of blistered feet.

Another trick is to put a ziploc bag over your socks before putting your shoes on. This will help if you find yourself with shoes that have not dried out from the previous day.

I'm wearing my leather Converse...hoping they work well. The kids don't have anything but canvas tho... I can't WAIT for Accuweather to post early Feb, I'd like to know if I need to worry! :rotfl:

Yeah... Now accuweather is showing rain again. I'm not so worried about the rain once I get to DLR, but I am worried about driving from Phoenix to Anaheim in the rain. I'm just praying it is not raining too hard.

I'm really not sure what to do about shoes. I am going to go shopping this weekend for a pair that will be slightly more water resistant than my converse or crocs. I made that mistake on my last trip. I had a blast in the rain, but I could not take the wet socks that long.

I'm just praying that if it does rain that I make it there safely.

Disneynerd - I am so sorry to hear that you were so ill! :sad1: I hope you have made a full recovery.

I've also been watching accuweather and seeing the rain forecasts. Sadly, I am just wanting to know what the weather will be like in the L.A. area, but I am not going to DL soon. :sad2: The rain forecast seems to fluctuate a lot which usually means that if it does rain, it won't be a lot or for long. :thumbsup2

Have a great time!!!

This is posted on accuweather now:

A series of major storms will pound California all of next week. The storms will bring episodes of heavy rain that will lead to flooding and mudslides. Rainfall through parts of central and Southern California will exceed a half foot by week's end.

Along the coast, the storms will produce high winds and pounding waves that can cause significant damage to oceanside properties.

:scared1:

Don't worry, Disneynerd! It will be just US in the parks! :cool1:

We will happily slosh around Main Street in our slickers, enjoying an empty park!

I think it will be fine - most of that drive is flat & there's isn't anything too treacherous really. Once we enter San Fernando it never fails, we meet a psycho driver (cut off, bumper tapped) but for the most part it's an easy drive. If we're smart, slow down & take breaks I think a rainy drive will be ok. Extra pixie dust!!! :goodvibes

Ha, now the forecast is showing 60's with no rain at all. I know why this is though. I bought ponchos and moisture wicking socks yesterday. :rotfl2:

We are planning to go up Tues. afternoon (from San Diego) stay until Thursday afternoon or evening, depending on the weather I guess... I want to make the most of DL in the rain w/ 3 kids: 7, 6 and 4. No pressure to do any particular rides b/c we've been up there several times this year. Any suggestions with this age group in the rain? We are staying at the Hojo.

My sister and I will be in the parks that same weekend (22-24) and have been watching the weather. We are a little depressed because we live in Washington and like to escape to Anaheim for a little winter time sunshine. The good side of the rain at Disneyland is it should keep the crowds low....Everyone have an awesome and magical time!

The forecast has improved because I bought raincoats and packable rain pants for all of us. :lmao:

This is funny. Accuweather has the forecast looking better. Weather.com, however, has rain EVERY DAY.

Guess I won't be sorry I bought the rain gear yet!

I wonder about weather.com lately. It showed snow every day this past week in my area. But guess what? NO SNOW AT ALL! :confused3
