DLR hotels, please tell me why you love them

I've never stayed in one, we've always done the less expensive nearby hotels..and we're not this year either, but I always wanted to know what they were like. So maybe our next trip will include one.

I love them for the ambience, and convenience. To me it really adds greatly to the immersive vacation experience. In our normal lives we are very frugal and the splurge we do at DLR is worth it as just a special time. The Grand Californian is stunning and beautiful in every way. I know the price is ridiculous, but it's worth it for us to save extra for the experience it provides.

It's just the feeling of Disney magic when you stay at a Disney hotel. There are Disney details everywhere and you are surrounded by a Disney theme. It's kind of neat knowing than when you leave the parks, you still have Disney to look forward to when you get back to your hotel.

Otherwise, the rooms aren't any bigger than other hotels.

Staying on a DLR hotel is worth the expense, you have great access to the parks. you can get in earlier. you don't have to deal with the parking and the Tram, and the traffic to get to and from, your hotel (or Motel)

Depending on which hotel your staying at, you can watch the fireworks.
if your staying at the Grand Californian, your hotel has it's own park entrance. they also have character dining, access to DTD, nice pool, nice jacuzzi.

Once the park(s) close your disney experience isn't over. You can go back to your resort and feel like your still in 24/7 Disney. The staff is just as nice and friendly as if you're still in the park.

Just the hassle of dealing with a car/parking and those tram lines is enough cause for me.

As for the price, I don't know because I have DVC and I don't pay for the GCH, I just say "I want to stay these days...." and they exchange them for my points.


Staying on property is awesome, you don't touch your car until you leave.

You can get those Magic Morning entries without staying on-site as well with your park hopper tickets. I do love to stay at the Disney hotels. Are they worth all the extra money? Gosh, that's hard to say.

I'm particularly fond of GCH and here's what I enjoy:

-Early entry: the first couple hours of an early entry morning are the best hours spend in the park. Since we can't stay up late with our little ones, these early mornings are the only time to have the parks with less crowds.

-More immersive experience/less hassle: although the hotels aren't necessarily that much closer than some of the offsite choices, we can avoid traffic, crosswalks, etc. Worth the extra money? Not sure. But definitely love staying "in the Disney experience."

-Nice pools: We really enjoy the pool at GCH and all the extra touches of soft lounge chairs, towels, etc..

-Just dropping in DCA to ride Soarin' and being back in room in 1/2 hour (when not terrible lines)

-All the nice touches: little chairs with Disney shows on tvs for the kids when checking in...story time in the lobby...the calm atmosphere of GCH after all the hustle and bustle of the parks

We often stay a day or two offsite and then sometimes just 1 day onsite (using DVC points). I'm waiting anxiously for the DVC to open at GCH, so we can stay onsite all days of our trip, but right now it's just hard to justify the cost to stay in Disney hotels for several nights and the point requirements for weekend stays at GCH are TOO high. And I should add that I only stay one night onsite if it does get me an early entry...otherwise not worth it, as check in is so late and check out so early.

I know - the first time we went, we had Early Entry privileges, but had no idea what it was all about, so we did not use them. DOH!!!!

One thing I like about staying onsite is the fact that when you buy things they can be sent back to the hotel bellmans desk so you don't have to carry your purchases all day with you.

We love this too. It's nice not to have to wait until the end of the day to go shopping so you don't have to carry it all around with you.

We love staying at the DLR hotels. We have stayed at the GCH once and the DLH twice. We are DVC owners and used our points for all three stays. It's great to get that "bill" at the end of the stay that just says $0.00 (providing you don't charge anything to the room that is ) We never would have done that if we had to pay cash.

I agree with everyone else. It is all the little things you get at the DLR hotels and you don't have to leave the magic of Disney when the park closes.
