Last October we visited WDW and used the dining plan. It really worked well for us, in fact we had a difficult time using all of our vouchers. Dinners were great and the fact that tax and tip were included in the vouchers really saved us money. We are planning a trip to DLR in August, staying at the GC and looking forward to it.

Is the dining plan the same in DLR that it is in WDW? Anyone have any experiences they would share?

Thanks!

No there is no dining plan for DLR. It would be really nice though. I hope you have a great time staying at GC. It's a great hotel/

Then what is the 'Goofys 4 Days of Disney Dining Plan'? I have a hold on a reservation from DU and I selected this for the quote. I cannot seem to find a breakdown as to what this is and if it is worth it..

I saw this option when I was planning my trip using the AAA website. There are a few Dining Plans, including a Goofy's 4-day Plan. I was unimpressed with what it gets you.

For adults/juniors, the plan includes:
  • 1 character breakfast
  • 1 character lunch
  • 1 breakfast in the park
  • 3 $5 vouchers
  • 2 $10 vouchers
  • 2 $15 vouchers
The cost is $131.11/adult or junior. While I'm sure that you probably get a little more than you paid for (the character meals alone could cost almost $50 before tax & tip), I would rather have more control over how & where I spend my food budget. But for anyone who likes to pre-pay for their meals, it's probably a good plan.

OMG! I'm so sorry. :guilty: There is 'Goofys 4 Days of Disney Dining Plan' and I had never heard of it. I searched around and found a breakdown:
Adult vouchers ($129.20 per adult):
1 - Character Breakfast
1 - Character Lunch
1 - Breakfast in the Park
3 - $5.00 Vouchers
2 - $10.00 Vouchers
2 - $15.00 Vouchers
Child vouchers ($89.45 per child aged 3 - 11):
1 - Character Breakfast
1 - Character Lunch
1 - Breakfast in the Park
4 - $5.00 vouchers
3 - $10.00 vouchers

I also found that the vouchers aren't good at DTD. So if you will be eating just in the parks then its great.

I kinda did the math in my head and it sounds like a good idea. I'm so sorry again!

whoops! I should have "refreshed" before I posted. I see we all found the same info! haha! Good to know, though..I didn't realize the plan doesn't include Downtown Disney.

Great, thanks to everyone for the info. So has anyone used it? Is it worth it? I guess I can just do the math and figure it out. I assume the tip and tax is taken care of if you go this route.

I looked into the plan before I booked, but the plan does not save you any money. If you add it all up it comes to the same price. The only good thing about it is that you pay up front, but it limits your options. We decided against it, because we wanted more options.

That seems rather vague. Are they referring to a character breakfast, or a cinnamon roll?

When researching I found that it meant a breafeast meal over by the Buzz show. Which equalled out to about $10.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but IIRC, I do remember reading that as far as the vouchers with the dollar amt. attached to them, if you don't use the full amt. you won't get any money back. So if you buy a soda with your $5 voucher for $3, you won't get the $2 change you'd get if you were paying cash. Just something else to consider.

I have used the plan twice. For our family it is a great budgeting tool, but saves no money. We typically book in our trips in advance while we have a chunk of money (dh's work bonus). We are horrible at saving, so if we buy the plan, our meals are coverded while we are there.

I recomend you buy for less days then your trip. Say you are going for 5 days, buy a 3 day plan. That way you have the freedom to eat in downtown disney or offsite and dont feel like you have vouchers and must use them. Carry cash with you. YOu dont get change back from vouchers, so you are better to spend more then the value of the voucher and use cash to make the up the difference. Vouchers from various books can be combined to pay for a meal, but you can't pull them out before you get to the cash register. MOst of the vouchers can be used in either park or at the hotels. There are a few in the book (the $5 snack vouchers) that can only be used in the parks. The snack vouchers include tax for some reason. So, they are actually like $5.32 each or something like that (give or take a few cents).

Breakfast in the park can be use at club buzz, carnation cafe or river bell terrace. The voucher is worth about $8 (maybe $8.75?). That is enough for a meal at any of those places, and possibly a drink as well, depending on what you order.
