DLP Train - what is going on with it?

Not long now until my very tiny DLP trip (28th - 30th August).
As my 5 year old nephew will be with me and it is his first trip I would like to take him on the train in the Disneyland park but don't want to spend 1 - 2 hours waiting at Main Street.
Can anyone here please give any up to date info on running times and which stations are currently operating?
Will be asking CM's too when we get there but I'm trying to put a plan together so we can see at least some of the things I think James will want to do.
Thanks :goodvibes

We never get on in Main street... The queue is always too big... The smallest queues I have seen are at Discoveryland.. Probably a 10-15 minute wait... This was in July

One of the best tips I can give anyone touring the parks is never board the train from the Main St station. I went in June and waited an hour and as we pulled up to each of the subsequent stations there were no more than a dozen people waiting at each. I'm still kicking myself for that one. The hours of operation vary for the other stations so make sure you check the schedule.

I would definitely say, check with City Hall re the schedule and which stations around the park are open. Then get on at either Fantasyland (because loads of people get off here) or Discoveryland (this is usually the quietest station).

The other stations aren't as quick as you'd think. Most people get off at Main Street so there's loads of empty spaces for waiting people. By the time the train gets to the other stations it is normally full so you're less likely to get a seat.

We waited at the Fantasyland station for 45 minutes on our last trip (in May). There was only around 20 people in the queue when we joined but there was never room on the train for more than a couple of people.

the train is the one thing we have sworn never to do again as we stood at the fantasyland station for an hour! the train was always full and no-one was getting off so although the queue was short it didn't move! i would say if this is a must do for you, do it first or last!

My six year old wanted to go on the Train and moaned everytime we went past it that he wanted a ride on it. We didn't queue up at Main Street as that was very busy and picked one of the other stations (can't remember which) but although it was a shorted queue it still took forever and then after one stop my six year old said he was bored. It was soooooo slllloooowwww. The train stopped at every station and it seemed to stop for sooo longgggg. Never going on it again.

What I would suggest, if he wants to ride on something, is to have a go on the tram that's pulled by a horse, the police van or the bus that go down Main street to the castle.

We went on this bus:

Thanks everyone for the replies!
I will ask @ city hall & will pencil it in as a "maybe" if we can get on it our last morning after EMH.
good idea about the main st vehicles - that's something to have as back up ;)
Little ones seem to love that train but in a short trip 1 - 2 hours wait is too long.

All stations were open today and the queues were unbelievably short - 20 minutes at Main Street station - so used to seeing the double :scared1:
