It only sounds like about a 15% increase in park space. 1.8 Billion seems to be a lot to spend on such a small amount of real estate. I wouldn't expect a water park to take up a lot of room but again 1.8 billion for a water park?!

There's just no way that's true. That's about 10 times the most inflated cost estimate of Harry Potter at Universal.

The entire second gate expansion at Universal Orlando, including the hotels and parking garages cost about 1.8 Billion IIRC and that was over a decade ago...

Anyway, it sounds interesting...that would make 13 parks in the world

The second gate at DLP (Disney Studios) is terrible. It makes DCA seem like Disneyland times 10. They don't need a 3rd gate.

When were you there? Prior to the first or just opened second phase of expansion?

I was there in June prior to the opening of the cheesy, carnival-esque area. It really added nothing to the park that I could see.

Village Nature of Val d'Europe is NOT the 3rd gate. The 3rd gate was always part of the plan - and indeed was part of the land agreement.

The 3rd gate is no closer than it was yesterday, they've actually delayed it if anything by extending the deal with the state by 13 years.

So, your title is more than a little missleading!

Unless i'm mistaken...harry potter is ONE new attraction...two old ones with new fiberglass theming slapped on it...a street of shops...and a rethemed restaurant....and some chotskies...

you really need to roll up the tongue and find a new measuring stick/ reference point. Why wouldn't a new construction cost alot more...i think they paid off Dueling Dragons and the Flying Unicorn a few years back.

I think it's a little harsh to say that WDS is terrible. The main problem was that the original agreement with the French Government called for a new park every ten years until there were three parks, hence a debt ridden EuroDisney SCA had no option but to build WDS on a very limited budget. What this new announcement states is that there has to be a 3rd gate by 2030 which is superb news, allows DLP time to plan and build the 3rd park properly

Blah, I think they should limit all non USA based Disney properties to 2 parks. What incentive will people have to visit WDW if they have the same thing in their country? WDW and DL should be mainline attractions and all the other parks should just make them thirsty to see the real thing.

I agree. The only attractions for grown ups are the Rock N Roller Coaster, Tower of Terror, and the Lights Motors Action show, all of which can be done in under two hours. Thank goodness my tickets were hoppers as the Disneyland Paris park is my favorite. I would hope they would improve their second gate before they open a third. I also would hope they would build a "value" resort on some of that land. Their Disneyland Hotel is exquisite, but the rates make the Grand Floridian seem downright affordable.

Oh God no!! Disneyland Paris has it's own flair. I going in May and it's a very distinct flavor. Why shouldn't they build it bigger? I don't think it would discourage people from visiting WDW. first, why would they want to come here and visit Epcot? they've got the real world showcase. They've got Norway, England, Italy and Germany a train ride, with morocco not that far away.
