DLP for a family of 5?

Hi everyone, been lurking for a while as I try and plan a trip to DLP for my aunt, uncle and their 3 kids. They are from Canada and coming to visit for a few weeks and not very 'travel savvy' so I am trying to figure out the details for them. Unfortunately, even though I've travelled plenty, DLP is boggling my mind!

The biggest problem I have is finding a place that will allow parents + 3 kids in one room. All the online systems -- or the vast majority -- say they only allow 4.

Does anyone know if this is just an online glitch and maybe if I call them they will offer a cot or something for the youngest child (kids are 6, 8 and 10)? Or do they genuinely limit it to 4 people?

There are some apartments but they won't be staying a week (1-2 nights) and they can't afford the more luxurious hotels. I was hoping to get in somewhere like the Hilton or one of the slightly more distant hotels but, hopefully, with a free shuttle or near the train.

Suggestions?

Hi !

We're a french family with 3 kids so we feel concerned by your question.
Actually, if you wanna stay all together in the same room : the only solution is to stay at "My travel explorer Hotel". It's located nearby Disney area.
There are special rooms for family from 4 to 6.

There are kind a "value resorts" so it won't be expensive.

In Disney area, all resorts can accept a family of 4 so you'll have to take 2 rooms and it's very expensive.

2 years ago, we spend a few days in summer in a " family suite" and it was REALLY expensive.
It was at the Newport Hotel.
Moreover, there are just 2 or 3 family rooms so it could be cheaper for you to stay outside Disney area.
You got shuttles to go to the park as well.

The recently opened Marriott's Village d'ile-de-France does family rooms.
They was a thread posted about it, recently so it might be a good option as they sleep up to 6 people and is near to disneyland. :goodvibes

Hi Friedel and welcome to DLP DIS Board :wave2:
We are a friendly bunch here so please join in on any other thread or if you have any new questions just start a new thread for each :goodvibes

We are a family of 5 also and as you have seen the options are limited. Yes, room are restricted mainly to a maximum of 4 or up to 5(with an infant who is under 3 years).

Options for families of 5 are 2 rooms with connecting doors, family room at Newport Bay (which can be booked on-line), Davy Crockett Ranch (no shuttle bus so you need your own transport), Hotel Explorer which is off-site but connected by shuttle bus or Marriott's complex.

Thanks for all the welcomes and good advice :teeth:

Does anyone have experience with the Pierre et Vacances self-catering apartments? Seems this is the other option to the Explorers hotel. They actually have a place for 7, which means husband and I could stay but not go to Disney while the kids and parents enjoy themselves in the park.

Hi everybody !

We're new in this site so I'm going to introduce our family :
We live in south of france and are "completely" addicted to Disney
My husband is a doctor and I'm a teacher.
We've got 3 kids : a tean (16 years old)
and twins (girls : 4 years old).

Please you may sometimes notice errors in my english cause I don't speak fluent english so do not hesitate to correct me if I'm wrong with terms (It'll help I'm going to WDW this summer so you help me to improve my vocabulary and I need this !! :guilty:

We're preparing our 8 travel in WDW but have still a lot of things to learn !!

Perrine your English is very good, so you have nothing to ask us to correct :)
Not that we want to loose you but the UK Trip Planning board here would be worth looking at as there are lots of WDW experts/addicts :teeth:

As you can see by my signature we've only stayed on site at Camp Davy Crockett & this is because we too are a family of 5.

Though when we visited last year it was by choice as we were a family of 4. WE are for most hols now as eldest DS at 20 doesn't come with us any more.
WE choose it because you get more space & privacy in a cabin than 1 hotel room & also because we love the place! the pool is fantastic.

Though as said before the drawback is the fact it's only available to those with transport.
will your family be hiring a car Friedel?

Thanks a lot Cyrano for this link !
It appears to be interesting, we go to have a look.

We are undecided on that! Possibly, though hiring a car from the UK could be expensive (as far as I can tell they normally charge extra to take it out of the country) and also difficult to find one for 7 people plus luggage. I was thinking if we went for one of the apartments at Pierre et Vacances we could just take the Eurostar and stay there while we did a day trip into Paris.

Just wanted to let everyone know we decided to Eurostar it and go for the Pierre et Vacances apartments. Will post back here after we go in May to let you know how it was. Thanks for all your help! :)

We'll look forward to hearing all about it! Have a wonderful time! :wizard:
