DLHotel to ONT vs SNA or LAX

SWA having a sale and I noticed that flights dropped substantially out of ONT & LAX for my date.

Will be using Super Shuttle to book a private sedan for transport to airport. Wasn't thrilled with shared shuttle last trip and not sure what time the DL bus to airport(s) starts to run each day. We also cut it a bit too close for my taste, waiting for bus to fill before we departed.

We are staying @ Disneyland Hotel, departure date is Wednesday.

Currently, booked on an 8 am flight out of SNA. Looking at switching to either as cost is lower and flight times shorter than out of SNA:

9 am from ONT

or

1 pm from LAX

Wondering how early (erring on the side of I don't mind sitting in airport for 3 hours so I don't miss my flight early lol) I should factor in scheduling a pickup from DLH for each of the airports?

Also, have read comments elsewhere that ONT is a 'hard' drive from DL area as to congestion and accidents. I'd think that is a possibility on any highway, but maybe I'm missing something?

Any suggestions most appreciated.

Both are about 45 minutes from Disneyland if you do not hit any traffic.
If you choose Ontario, hopefully the driver will avoid the 91 freeway.
Is the shuttle fee higher if you travel to Ontario? For some reason, I imagine they would be.

Why not keep your SNA flight? That is the best option. Is the amount you would save flying into ONT worth it? Given the choice between LAX or ONT, I would chose Ontario. There is not much traffic driving towards Ontario airport during morning rush hour. Most of the traffic is in the opposite direction. Plus the airport itself is relatively uncongested compared to LAX.

the car is pricing out $20 more to ONT

the rapid reward point savings vs SNA compared to ONT or LAS is approx. equal to 1 other flight I typically book.

SNA has always had little traffic for us to or from DL but we tend to arrive mid-day during the week and leave on a Saturday. This time, will be departing on Thursday. Assume it will take longer than what I recall is typically less than a half an hour from the DLH?

Define "substantially". No way would I go to LAX or ONT for less than $100 difference, maybe more even,

I was trying to avoid LAX as well but my son wants to get back home in time for his evening summer high school band practice and there are so many more flight times/choices flying out of LAX. So while I haven't booked yet, I've pinpointed flights out of LAX that arrive home before 6pm. The flight out of SNA for about the same price ($10 more) doesn't get home until midnight. I priced shuttles to LAX and I seem to recall pricing around $16 per person one way. To ONT the price is around $50 per person one way.

I've gotten good quotes the last few trips to Anaheim using super shuttle's sedan selection. not much more than the shuttles when factoring in 2 or 3 people and you don't have to wait for shuttle to fill before leaving airport.

flying into Burbank this trip but the rough quotes I'm getting for the transfer to DL are so expensive. Might try to Uber something in area. Have a few months to figure that mess out lol

You should rent a car for the Universal to Disneyland trip.

I admittedly don't have the fortitude to drive the freeway . DH (has a CDL) and after our first trip, agreed. I guess it's something you get accustomed to, but have spoke to many locals in the parks who tell me they drive nothing but surface roads since it's often quicker.

I completely agree that unless the savings are substantial, i.e. $100 plus, I would most definitely keep SNA. Second choice would ONT over LAX - similar commute but smaller airport to deal with. However you can't beat the ease and comfort of John Wayne! I would give myself 30 minutes to get there from DLH in the early morning.

They drive surface streets from Burbank area to DL?! That's ridiculous. Hopefully you're talking about people who live closer to the park. The freeways are a mess down there right now, especially the 5, because of the Metro roadwork. But it's not that bad!

LAX is a breeze, IMO. Totally easy for the people flying. Pain for someone picking up the travelers, but that's not you, since you're traveling. I actually prefer LAX over SNA, even though we have to leave earlier.


The freeways in the LA aren't that bad. They're just fast. (until they come to a standstill)

do you have any idea if we'd have an issue from DLH to LAX via the onsite bus or arranging super shuttle sedan to catch a 7:00 am flight? What time would you suggest arranging for a pickup? 3:00 - 3:30 pm?

That sounds like someone who has not done it a lot. I fly once week usually. LAX is a massive pain, cluster, snafu, and many bad words I can not say. SNA is almost a joy.

thanks, haven't tried UberX version yet, will check it out for the trip from Universal to DLH.

Just don't want to get stuck with meter ticking on a cab sitting on the freeway.

awhile ago, the newsletter here had a contributor post her saga of doing the subway/train with a small child. A local, even she got lost & wound up taking 'the scenic route' thru Compton but eventually ended up at the Anaheim stop. It was a good read, but convinced me that method was a bit too convoluted for us with luggage.

I guess it depends on what you are used to. I agree with Bumbershoot. The freeways and traffic congestion in the Puget Sound is worse than anything I have experienced in Southern California. It is so bad that I had to stop driving in Seattle. 10 minutes to go one block? Insane. I can ride my bicycle home faster from downtown than my neighbor who drives.
