I thought I had read on these boards one time that people staying at the Disneyland Hotel do not have to wait in line for the Monorail, you can show your room key at the exit in Tommorowland and go straight onto the train. Is this true? Has anyone ever done it?

I've never heard of that :confused3 ... I guess I'll have to try that next time.

I've heard that, too, but haven't tried it yet. I'll probably get the chance later this week, though! I'll report back if it works.

EDIT ~ I've heard it works for the Grand Californian, too. That's where we'll be staying.

Does the monorail go to GCH?

I don't think I've ever waited in line for the monorail when we weren't just waiting for the train to arrive at the station.

Would someone please interpret this thread for a WDWer? :rotfl: I have no idea why you need a ticket for the monorail or what any of this has to do with being a resort guest. Where does the monorail take you?

The monorail at Disneyland goes from Downtown Disney near all the resort hotels to Tomorrowland inside the park, and vice-versa. Since it's half-ride, half-transportation (emphasis on ride since it is inside the park, and the distance it travels is not super long), I'm guessing the question is whether or not people who use it as transportation and are hotel guests get priority over those who are primarily using it as a ride.

I've never heard of that policy, so I have no answer, haha.

I believe I have seen a sign near the ride entrance that says Hotel Guests. It was later in the evening when the monorail is more of transportation for hotel guests, not a general ride. You might want to check with Disney though.

You will have to go through security before you get on the monorail in Downtown Disney.I didn't see a line for hotel guests only.

If you have a park pass you can ride the monorail into Disneyland from DTD.The monorail stop in DTD is by the DLH.It is nice if you are staying there or at PP.It is closer to walk to the main gate if you are at the GCH.There are only two stops on the monrail.

My main use of the monorail is getting back to the hotel when the crowds on Main Street are really heavy, such as after fireworks, and I happen to be on the side of the park closest to the Monorail station.

It's much faster and easier than fighting the crowds to get out.

No, I've never seen that. And we've stayed on-site twice. The monorail does not stop at the GCH, it does not stop at ANY DLR hotel, it stops in Tomorrowland (so you do need valid park admission) and it stops in DTD.

The monorail is for hotel guests only during magic morning hours. Or so that has been my experience with it. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

Good question - can someone confirm that the monorail can be used for early entry?? I thought I recall seeing somewhere (a long time ago) that it wasn't a park entry option during EME.:confused3

ETA What a completely UN-spectacular post for 1,000. :(

I used it for EMH last week. I got there at 7:30 on an 8am opening cuz I slept in, and got right on. I remember seeing a sign that said something about running a 1/2 before opening, but I really didn't pay much attention because I was about to get on. I can at least confirm that they run a 1/2 before opening for EMH.

DLH guests had special monorail access MANY years ago, back when the monorail actually stopped inside DLH (now I'm dating myself)...that was before I could ever swing staying at DLH (and when it was the only Disney hotel, and oh how I remember feeling so jealous of the people getting to be whisked away to their rooms!!

There are certain times when you can only ride if you are a hotel guest (such as right after the fireworks.) If I remember correctly, they tried that but it clogged up the exit.

The first train, if the monorail is running properly, will depart to Tomorrowland 5 mins prior to EMH and will hold until teh EMH opens. Then returns to DTD. Then the second train will run in arriving about 15-20 mins after the park opens for EMH. So, it is faster if you are on the first train (first 80 people or so)but slower after that.

I was dating myself too when I asked if the monorail even went to GCA because that's what I was remembering was it going inside DLH. But looking back that was only 1999, I think, that they tore down the old 2-story buildings. I stayed there in the early 70s. THAT was a while ago. :)
