sooo...just an ethical question :) we are a family of 6 {myself, DH, and 4 kids ages 16/8/3/2} and am wondering if we could really fit into a room for 5 at the DLH...it is sooo overpriced for us to get a suite when I think the 6 of us could fit perfectly in a 2 bed room...

the 2 older kids can share a bed and the 2 little ones can even share a sleeper sofa....

and we REALLY want to stay at the DLH next summer but just might not be feasible for us to stay in a suite...

what would you do?

IDK, but i've pondered this one myself (really more for GCH than DLH, though) a few times over the years, having 4 kids as you do. i've wondered if we could just book the smaller room, and only claim a certain amount of family members that would be allowed in the room.

in the end, my husband and i just went for one of the off-site hotels that have a kids suite (entirely extra bedroom with bunk beds, separate A/C unit, extra T.V. and dresser, etc.). it worked out really well and cost less than half what the on-site properties cost, so in the end we were happy to have not "wasted" the extra money on a hotel room (since it would have felt like "wasted" money to us, we realized).

keep in mind too, that the restrictions are in place, i believe, due to fire codes. i know how you feel though....when half of the little kids you're toting are teeny tiny, it seems ridiculous to have to "count" them the same as you do adults (lol, "couldn't we just count both little kids as one big one?!!!" hahahahahaha!!!)

Children under the age of 3 don't count as part of your "party of 5". :thumbsup2 So you are good - as long as your little one is still 2 when you take the trip.
We have four children also. Now that our youngest is 3 we have to think of other solutions, like taking grandma with us and her having one or more kids in her room!

I have a different experience. When we've booked for a family of 6, and the 6th person is an infant, that person still counts as the 6th occupant of the room. To my knowledge, Disney has not changed their policy, and as far as I know, this is consistent throughout the Anaheim properties.

Since the Disney policy is that a standard room can only hold five people, then the DIS only allows discussions that would comply with the Disney regulations.

If you have a family of six, then it is more cost effective to get two standard rooms than a suite. Disney will note that there are young children, and will give you connecting rooms.

If you have a family of six, and cannot afford the Disney hotels then your best bet is to get a suite at one of the nearby Good Neighbor hotels where you can walk to the DL Resort, like HoJo (if their kids suites hold 6), or Camelot, etc.

When we checked into our rooms at GCH in April we were told that our kids do not count towards the room count since they are under the age of 3. I told her there were four and when she took our kids names and ages she said that they do NOT count yet. I'd call and ask the hotel if you want to know for sure. I am guessing that they do not count yet and you'd be fine. But please call and ask first. :)

If children under three count toward the room's occupancy then I must have "snuck" my little guy in a few times unknowingly! LOL
I know at least one of those times was on a disney package also.

I know WDW doesn't count it. We are planning a trip next year and I noticed that while doing research (and just went and confirmed it on mousesavers). It seems silly for DLR and WDW to have different policies on that?

I just called Disney hotels and asked, and was told that everyone, no matter what age, is counted in a room - due to fire regulations. The limit for a standard room is 4 adults and 1 child (5 adults would need a suite). I was also told that they cannot guarantee connecting rooms, so if a guest has to have everyone in one room, that guest would have to have a suite.

This is the official response from Disneyland Room Reservations, so for those who get a different deal when dealing directly with the hotel, then you really got some Disney magic. However, for the purposes of discussion on this board, only the official response will be allowed.

thanks MaryJo! that is why I came here and ask because I knew I would ge the right answer :)

We have four kids. It is the biggest reason we have only stayed at a DLR hotel one time.

Last year I checked on getting a suite for 6 and the price was just incredibly high ($700 a night at the GCH). We usually end up staying at the BWPPI because their mini-suites sleep 6.

Last year we stayed at the Pier (six of us including a 1 year old) and got a connecting room with a resort view and only paid 169.00 per room before taxes so we were still just under 400 per night for 2 rooms with tax, and it was really nice to have the extra bathroom. I know it isn't the Disneyland Hotel but we actually like it better and the rooms seem to be a bit larger to me and it has a great view of DCA. I have seen the rooms as low as 129.00 this year if you have a special code or an annual pass. Just food for thought!!!

Personally i don't think you're guaranteed to fit everyone. We had planned to have me, DH, DD (4), DD (1) and DMIL in one room while my parents and brother were in the connecting room. Well there was no possible way a rollaway was going to fit in our room, though the front desk swore up and down that it would. My parents had a handicap room which allowed for more space and they also had the "daybed", so we ended up putting the rollaway in their room. Made for some interesting sleep accomodations ;) In the end, the 9 of us were pretty cramped in 2 rooms, especially with all the "stuff" little kids need!

I would ask to stay in stay in the Wonder Tower if possible. Those have a nice twin Daybed/ sofa. And they already have a porta-crib in the rooms. Those rooms are slighter bigger than the ones in the main tower (can't remember what it is called, but it is where the check ins are). The rooms in the main tower don't have the extra bed, at least the rooms we have stayed in there.
