DLH or Sheraton Park? What should I do?!

My husband and I have a club room booked at the Sheraton Park for several days in June. It's his first trip to Anaheim. My husband's employer is paying for the room, as he will be attending a work-related convention there. Due to some flexibility, we're now able to add a day at the beginning of our trip--paid for, of course, not by my husband's employer, but by us. I have several options now for lodging, and I can't decide what to do. Maybe you can help? Here are my options:

1. Book that first night at Sheraton Park. Pay for a standard room, about $100 less per night than the club room. The only thing we'd have to do is transfer rooms the next day, from a standard to the club we booked earlier for the rest of our trip.
2. Book the first night at Sheraton Park and pay for a club room. We wouldn't have to change hotels, and we wouldn't have to move rooms during our stay. It's the most convenient option, but I'm not sure it's worth paying $100 (difference in price between standard and a club room) just so that we don't have to change rooms.
3. Book the first night at the Disneyland Hotel. It's the same cost as a club room at the Sheraton Park. That's still $100 more than the standard room at Sheraton Park, but the perks of Disney magic for one night and staying so close to the parks may be worth the extra money. The major drawback, though, is that we'd have to change hotels the next day.

Pros or cons that I haven't thought about? Any insight you might have? I need help from you DLR experts! Thanks!

I'm always a fan of being on property... I'm guessing you would be getting in too late to capitalize on EE though? Maybe the first day you won't be able to but how about your checkout day?

The two $100 options would be my choice, either to have the comfort of not having to switch rooms, or to just experience the DLH. Then again, I love the history of staying at such a place. If you aren't looking for anything special (and that depends on how you would define special), then you might as well stay at the Sheraton, and I'd say not worry about switching rooms. That can be a hassle.

I would definitely go with option #1. Unless you are craving a night at DLH I agree switching hotels is a pain. However, switching rooms is a piece of cake - just pack all the stuff you need for Day #1/Night #1 in one bag and the rest in other bags. That way packing and unpacking is minimal and you can use the extra money for dinner at Blue Bayou or Fantasmic! reserved seating or some other bonus. Moving your suitcases in not much effort IMO and the hotel may even do it for you.

Thanks for the replies! Anyone else have any input? I know the magic of staying on property at WDW is worth the extra $100, but those resorts are lavishly themed and so much closer to the parks than the ones not onsite. Is the Disneyland Hotel really that magical?

I know you've probably checked it out - but is their room availability for all of your options? I'm staying down there this month too, and I wanted to add a night to the trip I booked in February, but all onsite rooms are booked up during my stay. If you haven't already, I'd check with your hotels for availability - it might trim down your options for you.
Also, I might have missed it, but do you have any kids coming along? If not, I wouldn't sweat the DLR, go with the easiest choice.
HTH!

I would not bother to change hotels. DL is different than WDW. At DL, everything is very close together and the theming at the hotels is not as magical beacuse there isn't the space for the expansive grounds that go with the WDW theming. I would save the $ and the hassle of changing and just enjoy the trip.

I'd say get a standard room at the SPH and then just switch rooms. Surely the hotel will move your bags for you anyway? It won't inconvenience you and you can just enjoy the Magic of the parks and come back to a new room!! ;)

I agree with RMH... spend the extra money on something else like dinner at Blue Bayou or Reserved Seating for Fantasmic! That'll make your trip really special!!! :goodvibes

Do you think you could let me know what you think of the SPH when you get back please? We'll be staying there next summer and would really like to get an up-to-date opinion from a DIS'er!!! :)

Anyways, whatever you decide to do, have a brilliant time!!! :thumbsup2

Stick with #1 unless you have your heart staying at a Disney hotel for one night. It's really a waste of time just staying there for one night but that's just my opinion.
