We are thinking about staying 1 night at a Disney hotel before our cruise this summer. We are planning to just really enjoy the hotel and pool area so we are looking at the concierge rooms.

In December we stayed at GCH concierge and really loved it!

Thinking of trying DLH this time. Will we be disappointed?

Thanks,
Jen

I've done both and I think GCH is a little nicer. You don't get the tea sandwiches and scones in the afternoon at DLH, plus my room wasn't on the same floor as the lounge at DLH while my room has always been on the same floor at GCH. To check in at DLH, you still have to go to the front desk, but there is a special line for concierge. At the GCH you are quite often greeted at the entrance by a concierge staff member, and then taken up to the concierge floor to register. It just feels like it's a step above what DLH does. Concierge is still enjoyable no matter what the hotel, I just thought GCH did it a little better.

We are staying at GCH Concierge in sept. Can you give an sample of the food they had thru out the day. My mom and dad stayed concierge at WDW and we've been told that GCH will not stand up. Any info would be great. Thanks

We very much enjoyed conceirge at the dlh, but have nothing to compare it too, lol. The biggest disappoinment was that our room was in a totally different tower than the lounge and it wasn't as convenient as I had hoped, so I don't think we used it often enough to get our money's worth. I don't think we would do it again.

But if the hotel and pool are all you are going to do and it's only one night, you might enjoy it more than we were able to. The beverages were definitely great, as much as you wanted, whenever you wanted. The food that they had was good, fresh fruit, pastries, bagels, muffins, cereal, coffee, hot tea, milk, and juice in the mornings, chips and salsa, uncrustables, fruits, chips, and various stuff for light lunch, and we never managed to make it between 5 and 7 when they did wine & cheese. But their desserts were lovely, cookies, rice krispie treats, some kind of fresh fruit torte.

Thanks for the replies.

We haven't stayed at WDW concierge so we have nothing to compare GCH to.

Trying to remember what we had at GCH:

breakfast: fruits, pastries, cereal, milk, juice

afternoon snacks: tea sandwiches, veggies, fruit, crackers

evening: spring rolls, veggies, sandwiches, cheese, crackers, wine

story time: cookies & milk

All day long there is a fridge with water and soda as well as coffee/tea

Aloha,
Jen

Wow, so at DLH you can be in a whole separate tower? that sounds terrible.

How long a walk is it to the other tower where the lounge is?

The towers are right next to each other, but to some people it makes a difference having to leave your building to go to another building for breakfast, etc.

I've stayed at AKL a few times and you have to walk a fair distance to get to the lounge. A whole other building doesn't sound very good though, it's like you don't belong there. lol

It wasn't like it was a hike or anything, but it wasn't convenient at all. We would have to leave the room, go down the elevator, go to the other building, go up the elevator, check out our movies, grab a snack, drinks for a while, etc. Go down the elevator, back to the other building, back up the elevator to the room.

Out of all the concierge guests, do you know the percentage that are not in the tower with the lounge? (ie) 80% with the lounge, 20% elsewhere?

Can you request to be in the same building?

Not being in the same building is a definite negative for us. At the GCH we had no problems letting our boys ( 10 & 11) walk to the concierge room themselves to get some snacks...but won't feel comfortable if they had to go to a totally different building.

I didn't fight it, but I did request to be in the same tower as the CL. They said it was because a majority of their suites are in the Wonder tower. The CL is located in the "Dreams" tower. I'm sure if we did it where we were just in a deluxe or Premium room we could have gotten in the same tower. Of course, they won't guarantee any requests will be fulfilled, but if you request it when you are reserving the room, and again when you do your pre-check in, I think you are fairly likely to get what you want.

We haven't done GCH concierge so I can't compare it, but we have done PPH and DLH concierge and have enjoyed both. We stayed DLH concierge on our last trip and we had a wonderful time. We had a pool view room one floor below the concierge lounge in the Dreams tower. We liked that the concierge lounge had its own glass elevator that took you straight up to the lounge and straight down to downtown disney. We also liked that the lounge faced downtown disney and had a good view of the fireworks. My family would eat breakfast in the lounge and sit by the window as we watched downtown disney slowly come alive with people. The staff was wonderful and helpful. They managed to get us a ps for cafe orleans when disney dining said there were none available. The cms remembered us by name and even remembered what wines and beers dh and I liked. After the first night, we didn't even have to ask for drinks, as soon as we sat down at a table our drinks would appear.

Choosing between GCH and DLH concierge is tough because of the cost difference. GCH cost almost twice as much as DLH :scared:

We've stayed at GCH before in a standard/city view and a downtown disney view room. I don't think I'd pay twice as much for GCH than DLH. I'd chose DLH and maybe use the money saved to have a nice dinner at Napa Rose or Steakhouse 55.

Did you stay in an one or two bedroom suite? If so, the DLH told me that the suites are in a different tower then the CL. I am hoping you stayed in a suite, so I don't freak out too much for paying for CL and not staying in the Dream Tower. Trying not to freak out too much:eek:
