Ok, I know someone will be able to explain this to me.

We have a standard room, first choice Dreams Tower, second choice Magic Tower with an additional request for a firework view( is this possible from a standard room?)and an upgrade to concierge is not available anymore(I checked last week) so...when can I actually find out what room we will be in? Do I call the week before? We would like a refurbished room ideally, is there something I can do to better my chances?

We will be checking in early on Thursday June 24. I was told we could just leave all our stuff with them, complete my paperwork, go into the park and when we came back later they would have moved everything into our room. Has anyone done this before?

Really starting to get into this whole planning bit:rotfl:
We booked through AAA if this makes a difference.

You'll probably need to wait until you check in. Especially if they're busy.

And it's fine to leave your stuff. We've done that several times.

I'm pretty sure they assign the room very close to check in. And even if they did assign the room early, I'm not sure they'd tell you since they need the flexibility to change it as occupancy fluxuates.

Standard rooms are generally the bottom three or so floors of each hotel on whichever side has a view. You can get a higher floor with standard view if you are overlooking a parking lot. You can always double check starting five days out from your stay as that's when some may be canceling their reservations (that's the last day without penalty). You can also check availability for a view or concierge room upon check in. We've been able to upgrade at that time in the past.

When we checked in, we had to call for our bags when we got to the room, they weren't waiting for us.

They didn't assign our room until we checked in, and then we had a few choices if we wanted to get into our room right away (got there about 11 am) or if we wanted to wait until other guests checked out.
