DL trip with baby in August - bad idea?

So, my newest addition is due in early May. My family and I are planning on making a trip out to CA to get him baptized at our family church (we're originally from CA...lived there 20+years). We will likely be coming out in early August. I would LOVE to take a trip to DL...mostly for my other kids (4 and 15), but I'm wondering if it'll be too much for the baby. I know the Summer is typically pretty hot (although, last Summer was extremely mild, but also unusual), so I'm hesitant about bringing my little guy out in the heat. He'll be about 3 months old when we make the trip. Do you think we'd be able to spend a day in the parks with such a little one? I certainly don't want to put him in a bad situation or anything. I'm mostly concerned about the heat. What do you guys think?

We took a trip in August back in 1994 (yes ancient times). We had 3 kids then, 5, 3 and 1. We took a stroller for the 1 year old.

The first part of the day until about 2-3 in the afternoon was fine. But by the afternoon, it was hot, I was tired from pushing the stroller in the heat and having to navigate the increasing flow of humanity that was jamming the walkways.

There are venues to escape the heat. POTC is great, so is IASM. Any of the shops or other non-ride venues will be fine also.

The big problem we had was using a stroller with so many people there. I know it was a long time ago (pre-CA) but August still gets pretty crowded.

After that experience I swore never to go in the summer again and have stuck with it. However, if you do it right and take a break in the afternoon, you should be fine.

Enjoy.

August is typically REALLY hot there--and that would be my main concern for you guys. We have gone in August twice, and I have sworn off it for future trips due to the heat. Both times we went temps were over 100 degrees, though. I am pale skinned and don't do well with extreme heat, and I think babies are the same.

If we go in the summer, we typically go in June or early July. I know for your trip you don't really have the option of changing the date.

Let us know what you decide:)

If you have family there, maybe they can babysit during part of the day when it is mostly hot, and/or switch off with hubby/siblings, etc to go into the park with the other kids while watching the baby, and maybe other little ones.

It may get hot (not as hot as WDW in August) but I think you'll be alright. There are so many places for you to sit in the shade and don't forget the baby stations in DL and DCA. The important thing during any trip to keep everyone hydrated, baby included. Be sure to have sun screen and a sun hat.

I took my youngest DD to WDW in August when she was 6 weeks old. Sun bonnet, sun screen and we mapped out all the ac building along the way in the MK. Disneyland doesn't even come close to that heat and humidity, so just as long as you pace yourself and know where the baby stations are and any ac attractions.

Can you leave your 3 month old with family? It will be really really hot...but that's not my concern.

Your 3 month old will not have been vaccinated for alot of things. I'm not sure it's a great idea to bring him around DLR, where there are a ton of people traveling internationally who might have tons of things.

Call me a germaphobe...but my DD (then 18 months) caught RSV on the plane this Christmas at WDW and ended in the ER for 2 days in Orlando.

Just a thought.

Aside from highly heat sensitive folks, I do not think it is all that hot at DLR.

From "Detailed Weather Data for DLR" www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=23004158

Average high/lows of 87/64 F (31/18 C) with no rain an no noticeable humidity is just about perfect IMO. Especially when one takes afternoon hotel breaks.

Strangely enough weather and actual temperatures tends to be very controversial around here so hopefully we can keep things cool. ;)

Maybe you should ask your pediatrician about taking a new born since it's a concern of yours. :goodvibes

We took my youngest to WDW in August when he was 1. I had a stroller with a nice canopy on it to give him shade and I picked up a couple of the small battery operated fans with clips that i clipped onto the stroller. We took advantage of the cooler rides and AC buildings when it was really hot but otherwise he faired quite well. Had his naps and was comfortable.
